FWIW those Z cats should be a perfect fit/replacement. So hopefully your sad story ends a bit happier.

 

That's awesome you got the Z cats, they're a direct bolt-on BUT, that doesn't make it ok. I'd go ahead and file a report and leave it to the authorities to do anything, if at all. It's not going to be a priority for them but you might get a surprise restitution check in the mail 3 years from now. After you file the report, never go back to the shop again for any reason.

 

When i put HFC's on my last car, the exhaust shop offered me money for my stock cats so they could recycle them. this was back when platinum was $2000/oz so he knocked $100 off my bill.

Sounds like this guy is using them as an extra revenue stream.

 

I hope you've filed a report. If not then you better get on that ASAP they have no right to take whats yours. Better hope they didn't sell them though

I remember some years back a car dealership in the city I lived in at the time had a bunch of the vehicles get the cats sawzalled off.

 

sorry all this happened to OP, i guess the best you can do is file theft, unless a contract was signed giving the cats to the installer. If it wasnt then the cats are...or were still technically yours. But if its gone, its gone, so no use crying over spilled milk, but next time you'll know to be more inquiring and careful.
