now here's where my over researching gets me in trouble.. the documentation on the hardware kit stated to use RTV but from this source ( link )

No more RTV.
which is what i got in the kit.

but from here ( link ) it appears in one of the pics that the installer is using the crush ring seal together with a Z1 gasket.

I'm not opposed to using the gasket, i just want to know whats the proper way to install the pipes.. will the combination of Z1 and crush ring interfere with each other?

WAIT! its not over yet.. in continuously pondering the Z1 gaskets are $40
( link ) where as the Fast Intentions ones are $25 ( link )

thanks for your input..

I used a crush ring with my stillen HFCs. No exhaust leaks from the header to the cats. (Cats to mid pipe was a different story lol)

I'd say you're safe with the crush ring. The part that extends past the flange on the cats goes inside of the header pipe, it's a snug fit.

Wish I had the lip on the pipes. Looks like mine are V2's so they dont have that and even with the Z1 gasket I don't think I have a fully leak-free seal.

Had mine installed yesterday. Reused my z1 gaskets as well as some rtv. This reminds me I need to get some oem gaskets for the y pipe.

I initially used RTV to seal, I don't know if I did it wrong or what but it completely failed. I am now using the Z1 gaskets only and still have rasp. Right when I put the Z1 gaskets on the rasp actually went dramatically down, but it has returned so I suspect the leak started again. Maybe next time I should use RTV on the gaskets as well.
