Test Pipes, anyone?
Test Pipes, anyone?
Hey everybody, I'm currently being offered a great deal of a set of Fast Intentions Non Resonated Test Pipes, but I have a few concerns. I drive a 2008 G37s coupe.
#1. CEL light, everyone is always concerned about this light with test pipes. anyone have any input on if these will throw a light or not?
#2. Rasp & Drone. If I go through with this, I will be pairing the FI NRTP with a full ARK GRiP catback exhaust. I've read that there is usually rasp with test pipes, but minimal with Fast Intentions, also read that only for the Resonated versions the rasp is reduced.
#3. Smell and Emission Inspection. I live near Chicago IL and im pretty sure there are no emission inspections done (or at least I've never been inspected or know anyone that has) but I also heard test pipes give off a bad smell. I wouldn't mind it if it is minor but if its too bad then I don't to deal with it.
If anyone is running any type of CBE paired with these FI TP please let me hear your $.02!!! Any help is appreciated.

and replaced with "converter replacement pipes' by any person.
The 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments even prohibit private
individuals from installing "converter replacement pipes" on their
own vehicles. Anyone who installs such pipes would violate section
203(a)(3)(A) and (B) of the Clean Air Act (Act).
And considering the abundance of illegal mods referred to on this forum in no way makes any of them legal.
I bought my G37s with berk test pipes and yes the CEL is on. I also run DC headers and HKS hi powered exhuasts idk what is causing the CEL. My state is strict on inspections so i had to register in a state that doesnt require stickers (lol) Let me tell u though it sounds SUWEEEEEEEEEEET
BTW not that i support breaking the law i bought it this way.

Also Im pretty sure under federal law we can't even install high flow cats unless our cats have failed. I think its law that you cannot mess with functioning catalytic converters.
That being said.... tons of people do it.
You're gonna have a fun time with insurance if they ever ask you why the vehicle is not in the state you registered it in if you have to make a claim.
They are absolutely 100% illegal lol.

But to answer ur question i cant answer that i would look deeper in forums and lots of reading. Or grab them install them and see if the CEL comes if they dont ure golden. If it does well u lost some money. Time to resell
If you're planning on non resonated test pipes they're all very similar, the resonated fast intentions test pipes get good reviews for sound and no CEL lights (at least from all the reviews I've read). As far as being illegal, yep they are, depends how well your conscience deals with it

Illegal: "contrary to or forbidden by law" .... pretty clear to me. You can try to rationalize it all day long, doesn't change the facts. But there is a lot of that going on these days.
