That same circle deformed to an oval shape (3 x 4.88) has the cross sectional area of 11.52, so about 1 square inch less. The more you deform it, the more cross sectional area you will loose.

A circle is a more efficient shape to move air through than an oval or rectangle.
Rybitron is right. Math beats common sense every time. Originally I was thinking of this from a conservation of mass standpoint (the mass being the circumference/perimeter). Well, I was completely ignoring the Geometry of the shape and its corresponding surface area. A circle will have the best efficiency as Rybitron said, essentially a circle has a surface area that is equal to its circumference. When you deform the circle into an ellipse, it maintains its circumference/perimeter (Due to conservation of mass), but the surface area decreases directly with the amount of deformation.

Thanks Rybitron for making me not take the easy way out and apply the science/math.

what a hassle. i'll stick with the stock cold air system. Also, wouldn't removing the top shield allow hot engine air to creep into the intake?

So the stock sealed system is a true cold air system.

Also, what do u do when its pouring cats and dog? wouldn't water get into the filters from the grill area? and when u wash ur car? or when someone else washes ur car?

The radiator cover comes off for installation, but is reinstalled after the tubes are put in. They make a splash shield, but many go without and have no issues. I do not have the shield and have gone through many car washes and downpours, as have many others, without issue.

I just installed my Takeda CAI from the group buy. Install was easy and I did take off the bumper. I felt it's a must in order to trim. I had to cut/trim and widen the hole on the passenger side to be able to squeeze in rubber tubing through. The driver's side did not have to, just squeezed it through.

I am working from home today and have not had a chance to go out on a test drive. Am I supposed to unplug the Neg on my battery to reset the computer before I drive?

I didn't experience any issues with the passenger side. For me, the drivers side gave some concerns. However, I didn't expect the performance experienced afterwards. The Takeda along with my FI CBE definitely made a difference.

I used the Spectra filters from Advanced auto and grab the AEM rain shocks from Amazone.

this video is a tad old, but have you noticed/experienced the same with yours?

Interesting, did you notice any difference in performance after swapping to dual filters?

What size filters to get for the replacement to have dual cones fit and not head butt each other? Just did the intake today and not a huge fan of the single filter connection wise.
