R2C Filter Almost Fell Off
Has anyone else had this problem?
I love these intakes and would hate to sell them but it doesn't matter how hard you tighten down the clamp to the metal piping it is not what I would call secure. It's secure enough to stay on the piping but apply a little pressure and it easily falls off.
I opened the hood today out of curiosity and the left filter was nearly completely off of the piping. No idea how long it's been like that but if I find it like that again I'll probably be making a post on the classifieds.
What is the risk here btw of taking in unfiltered air? Had I not randomly checked I wouldn't have known.

Before you go and sell, check out Rochester's thread here:

Those filters are probably not getting enough grip because of either a release agent on the mold when the filter was made or the pipe is too slick. Try wiping the inside of the filters rubber lip with some isopropyl alcohol and take some fine grit sandpaper (600) to the pipe where it mounts and see if that helps before you sell, might work.

Oh man good find. Will definitely try this after work today. I noticed there was some greasy substance on the filter where it connects to the tubing when I first got these but I didn't think anything of it.
Good find with that post too. I did some searching and couldn't come across anything.
Hopefully this works.

Just did this 5 minutes. Put some alcohol on a paper towel and wiped the inside of the rubber part of the filter housing then the metal piping. I swear nothing wiped off onto the paper towel but the seal is night and day now. Very sturdy now.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Yeah I didn't sand the tubing at all. That was going to be a last resort option. The $1.99 bottle of rubbing alcohol did the trick.

I wonder why R2C doesn't clean the rubber before shipping, or why the instructions don't comment on doing this. If the instructions do mention this...then never mind.
