Stillen G2 Intake install, fit and review

So I got the Stillen G2 (short ram) intake and installed it myself last weekend. I don't know it's 2013's or all sedans, but the installation calls for relocation of the main relay box. Easy enough, except that the relay box was bumping up against one of the filters. I took out that side of the intake, moved the relay box slightly, and bent the bracket downwards to give the filter more room. Now it's barely touching, but still touching. You guys see any concern with this?

As far as my review of the intake itself, it is AWESOME. I thought about the G3, but didn't want to cut anything, remove the bumper, etc. Plus my last car had a CAI and every time it rained I got paranoid (warranted or not). I did this for the sound and feel, and man does it make a difference! Instant throttle response, much more low end grunt, and the engine now sounds angry and strong all the way to redline.

Fulow, in my 6MT there was only one relay inside that box. So I removed the box & bracket entirely, and wrapped the single relay against the big wire housing. Problem solved. Here's the thread: https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-sed...-overkill.html

I got very close to getting the Stillen Gen2. It went on and off the list a few times, and was off the list when time came to get an intake kit. The mid-pipes are a nice, clean design. And the filter covers make it all look OEM, which is kind of interesting. And I suspect the throttle response you're perceiving is because of the added sensory input... not that it matters, because awesome.

Now that you're under the hood with mods, what's next?

Lol wow I should have just PM'd you. Are you telling me that big a** box only has ONE stupid relay in it?? Gotta be kidding me. Not sure I like the idea of just taping it to the harness like that, but that's not as disconcerting as the relay box resting against the filter either. Not to mention if I ever need to get to it, I'd have to take that half of the intake out!

Funny you ask about the "under the hood" mods. Because as soon as I cleaned up the engine bay and stepped back, I started asking myself what I could do to improve the look. I know a lot of you guys have made some nice improvements, and I will do the same. First I'm going to let the Tanabe Medallion break in a bit more, and then contemplate the mid-pipe and possibly the y-pipe. Once that is done, I will turn my attention the details of the engine bay.

Thanks again for the tip on the relay box. I will absolutely do something similar to this when I get some time.

That made me chuckle. Here you go, buddy:

It starts with something simple, like an intake, or a FSTB. And then you find yourself staring at the engine bay (probably stoned, if that's your thing) thinking what you can do. Fortunately (or unfortunately), the G37 engine bay is pretty simple, so for it to get out of hand would take some serious creativity.

In Rochester's thread, when he plans to use the small black box, but changes his mind, perhaps you can find a different box, and use the same mounting bracket that the stock box uses. With a substantially smaller box to attach, it shouldn't poke your filter.

I don't know what that whole assembly looks like detached, nor the bracket, but you can probably figure something out. I may even take a stab at it someday.
