Exclamation Takeda CAI hydrolock water concern

I lurk and read consistently but this is my first official post so go easy on me guys

Now that I have finished most of the exterior changes I want, I'm still itching to modify my G so performance upgrades are next! Cold air intake is first on my list, and after much reading on here I had decided on the Takeda CAI because it doesnt require any cutting (unlike Stillen Gen 3) and looks great because it wraps to the front (behind the grille).

HOWEVER, this is now a concern of mine. Doing research I learned about hydrolock, so my question is how safe is the Takeda CAI as it is exposed right behind the grille (which is very open). I live in Texas, when it rains... it RAINS. Not to mention that when I wash my car I spray the water hose directly at the grille to clean it.

I feel the Takeda has an extremely high risk of soaking in water, not sure even the water shield would help. Now i'm doubting getting a short ram intake

HELPPPPPPPP. Everything I talked about I learned thanks to this forum (thanks guys yall are awesome) but I cant seem to find a solid answer on this topic.

Unless you submerged the car under water it shouldn't be a problem. Also find out if the takeda comes with a splash shield like the stiller intakes do

Nothing to worry about. If you were that concerned I believe takeda has the front filter cover like the stillen gen3 does. I don't even use the filter cover and have drove in the rain, sprayed water directly at the grill.

They do sell a shield for it, which somewhat covers it from the front. I read a post about an hour ago on here on somebody who drove into a puddle and now their engine hydrolocked! Which is why I'm really concerned.

i have had mine and drove through pouring rain and everything is good. I also have the shield too

Like someone said unless you put the front of your car in a pool of water you should be good

I was trying to decide this as well a few weeks back and had the same concern about hydrolock with the SG3 or Takeda...it probably is not going to happen like the folks above stated but I've had a car hydrolock before and it was a horrible ordeal so don't want to go through that again. Totally my fault though for it hydrolocking.

But I personally just couldn't get over having my air intake in the front of my grill. Then I also came across this dyno...see at the bottom. In my opinion (just butt dyno) the throttle response feels better in the midrange now that I have the R2Cs installed which is in line with the dyno.

SG3 or Takeda I would guess give very good power up in the higher RPM range. Even the Stillen dyno shows the highest gains above 7,000 RPM.

I run the Takeda with no shield. I have driven through numerous rain storms and many touch less car washes which is more direct than rain with zero issues for over a year now. I will be buying the shield as I can see it prolong the life of the filter from physical abuse.

Looked up the R2C's and I must say it is very tempting. Did read on the results and it does seem to give more power at lower speeds for cruising, while Stillen/Takeda would be better in instances like highways (higher RMPs). I also really like the look of the short ram intake. Any idea where I can get the R2C (or Takeda) for a good price? The prices could be another deciding factor.

Get 10 posts on the site then post a WTB (want to buy) thread in the classifieds for the R2C, they come up for sale quite often.

Numerous heavy rains, no hydrolock. It's been over 2 years now.

Okay thanks! I browse and read a lot, most questions can be answered by simply searching so it will be a while to reach 10 posts
