intake questions

I have a few questions about the stillen gen 3 intake. I have looked all over and can't get the answers I am looking for. First thing is if I add a piece of pipe to my R2C intake can I make a gen 3 stillen out of it? It seems like a cheap solution to making my R2c intakes work without having to sell them. If it would work, what diameter pipe is the R2c intakes? Also who sells the filter that has two ends to connect the pipes to one double ended filter? I have seen it before for sale in the classifieds, but I can't find it now. Thanks for any help

It seems like you're the best person to answer the question regarding the diameter of your own intake. Get a caliper or measuring tape and go measure it, or contact a vendor directly. AFAIK, no one has tried to do what you're suggesting. I don't think the angle of the R2C is suitable for running in to the existing holes in the radiator core support. You will probably need to bend them anyways. Takeda and Greddy have the double ended filter you are referring to, but K&N makes the filters in the Gen3 kit.

I would say absolutely yes and since you have the short tube your'e already halfway there. I also researched a lot before I got mine and found a thread where someone made a custom one like your'e saying (not with the R2C tho) and even had a dyno to show very similar gains of the Gen 3.

I have never seen anyone sell just that air filter alone, unless you get lucky and find one used in the classifieds like you said. Otherwise, you would need to custom fabricate a mounting bracket to hold your two intakes, assuming the R2C filters fit nicely inside the bumper. Don't forget a custom splash guard as well. GL

Why not buy the one-piece Tanabe filter and rain shield, fitted for these custom pipes around the radiator? Also, the Tanabe kit goes through the side air inlets with rubber couplings, instead of enlarging those sections to fit bent piping, like the Stillen intake. That approach might suit your custom ideas better.

At some point in the not too distant future, I'll be upgrading my R2C intake for a long-tube setup, before getting tuned. So the idea of converting my R2C has some personal appeal, considering how costly the long-tube kits are. (And considering how pretty the R2C mid-pipes are plated in black nickle.) I'm a little skeptical of your plans, but interested nonetheless.

Then again, those large flanges at the filter-end of the R2C mid-pipes would look kid of silly and out of place if all they did was connect to wrap-around pipes. Hmm.

Interesting idea, OP. Subbed to see where you go with it. Here's a pic of the R2C kit. Notice the flanges I just mentioned:

Do these intakes noticeable boost the performance. Is it only during high rpm or do people honestly get it just for the "wooosh" sound it makes. Reason why i am asking is because a know a few ppl that got this just for the sound...

SRI has marginal gains, they tend to heatsoak rather quickly. CAI's have proven gains on the dyno, and if you have an exhaust, you probably can't hear the intake pulling air. So to answer your question, yes.

I appreciate the replies. In the past I have modified intakes to suit my needs, so I am not new to this, just thought others may have had similiar ideas before. Rochester, I am leaving the filter insulators in. I think they may aid in keeping the pipe cooler as long as possible. This may help more than it hurts. So the flanges are no concern.
