sedan mid pipes

i take it there are no options for sedan mid pipes? i have ARK cats and tanabe mufflers. was planning on going with an motordyne XYZ pipe but dont want my mid pipe to be a complete bottle neck. i have a little hiss/rasp at 3K rpm with my current setup. would the xyz cure this or make it worse with the change in diameter?

i do not want to make it quieter, just maybe cleaner and a little louder

Just the mid pipe? Look for someone selling their exhaust (Cat back), And see if they'll part it out, I'm running my Coupes Exotic Speed midpipe on my sedan. They are interchangeable , RWD or AWD doesn't matter, My catback was for A RWD coupe I used it on my AWD coupe bolted right up . Sold the coupe for a AWD sedan and swapped over the mid pipe to Stock mufflers. I just had to have a shop make two small pipes to mate to the stock mufflers. I will be trying again to get the coupe mufflers to fit( 4/18) , Twin canister muffler going to cut and split them and see what happens.

I was under the impression almost all mid pipes would not work. I may give it a try though. Just something with a bit more diameter than stock. I think we have 2.25" mids?

How much of a sound difference do larger mid pipes with stock mufflers make?

This is definitely wrong. take alook at various exhausts muffler sections. the layouts are all totally different. theres no way they all jsut bolt right up with any old brand of muffler. its common knowledge tanabe does not make a mid pipe for the sedan even though their is one for the coupe.

OK lets start again cause it seems that guys are not understand. The MID PIPE and mid pipe only will fit, the muffler WILL NOT. I never said the muffler would fit. We all know the coupe muffler is a single canister type the and the sedans is dual mufflers, Either side of the tire well. An just because the company "says" they don't make a midpipe for the sedan doesn't mean it wont fit. You might want to read my thread where I'm running the Exoticspeed cat back( MID PIPE) off my coupe, and still working on getting the muffler to fit( Twin canister) So how did it fit? because they don't list a mid pipe for the sedan? If fit because its the same . The only difference is the muffler. Even exhaust for RWD's with fit X cars. You just have to make sure the Y pipe it stock style and not a V style again I have first hand experience. My coupes catback for for a RWD Z or G37 car and I had the X coupe. There are a lot more options out there than you think. just cause they don't list it or "Say" it wont fit doenst mean it doesn't. Just means they never tried or looked at a X car. Again Exoticspeed told me it wouldn't fit and it did.

i understand what you are saying, but for the mid pipe to fit, the muffler-to-mid pipe flange must be in the EXACT same location for any old catback exhaust, which they arent.

im not saying every single exhaust out there falls into these lines, as maybe you have found one, but most.

i dont have factory mufflers, i have tanabes, therefore the factory mid-to-muffler flange location is the same as factory.

never said it was. Sometimes I take for grated that people know what I'm saying so sorry if I confused you. You may want to see my thread,

https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-sed...o-sedan-2.html

again my be the way I'm explain it but the muffler would include the bends at the back, I made 2 small pieces to mate the stock mufflers. So it still sits as the only difference is the muffler.

i read your thread and i like where your heads at, but it seems a bit confusing.

so your muffler piping and your mid pipe piping overlap by a few inches but line up? so you just ran one over the other and welded them, correct?

i would think all aftermarkets woudl have the same "path" just maybe different lengths and flange locations. my tanabes dont have a flange, just a clamp. maybe it would work

Hey man, they do but I had those small extension pipes made. They cut the coupe flanges off and bent 2 small pipes(maybe 8-10 inches) to meet the stock mufflers pipes. The stock mufflers where not touched at all just the mid pipes rear flanges were cut and pipes made to meet the stock mufflers pipe locations. Sounds very good also. I will be modifying the rear muffler off my coupe this Friday to fit also, So we'll see how that goes.

Also if you look at your pic also the coupes mid pipes flange is right next to the rear end. You cut the flanges and the insert those small made extensions, Its really a very simple mod. Everything else bolts in to place ,hangers ECT.

ok i gotcha. so they dont REALLY fit, you have to cut off the coupe flanges and extend the pipes a few inches. i wish they just would have put flanges on the sedan mufflers too and this would be so much easier

probably easier for me just to buy a coupe mid, cut out the smaller resonators and weld them into my current mid pipe. are the mid pipe diameters any different?
