should i get HFC?

i live in NYC and i heard a lot about people getting pulled over and getting tickets for having their exhaust too loud

i have the MXP catback for about a year and haven't got pulled over for my exhaust yet. does anyone have a video comparison MXP cat without and with HFC
if this helps i also have injen short ram intake

i want it louder but i would like to hear a example of how loud it would be with HFC

Buy these: Resonated test pipes lol. They make it louder but the resonators help keep the noise level at non ridiculous levels

High Flow cats are catalytic converters that have a reduced number of cells per square inch. The lower density allows exhaust to flow more freely while still providing some filtering and cleaning.

Test pipes have no matrix or cleaning. They are just pipes with a bung in the side for an O2 sensor. The will be louder because they do not obstruct the exhaust at all, they will have slightly better horsepower gains. The downside is you may throw error codes, you may fail inspection, and your exhaust will smell from the unburned contaminants.

A Y pipe is just a pipe shaped like a Y that gathers exhaust from your dual catalytic converters/testpipes/whatever and pipes it into a single exhaust pipe downstream.

thanks very detailed answer. error codes meaning my check engine light is going to turn on right?
so the HFC wouldn't have that issue?

Yes, check engine light. Reason why I haven't just thrown on a straight pipe. Here in Texas we have emission testing. I don't want to put on the factory exhaust every time inspection comes around.

Yes. Your check engine light may turn on. It's not guaranteed, depending on the design of your test pipes, you may have zero problems with having them on. If your test pipes have an L-shaped side outlet to screw in your O2 sensor instead of sticking it directly in to the exhaust stream, you'll be less likely to have problems. You can also reduce the chances of getting an error if you stuff a little bit of fine steel wool into the bung before screwing in the sensor. The steel wool will prevent the worst of the exhaust contaminants from damaging your sensor.

HFC's won't have any of those issues anyways, and in my opinion, catalytic converter design is sufficiently advanced that test pipes don't have much of an advantage anymore.

The differences in sound? Or the physical differences?

I have a couple very short videos, they weren't really done well but I'll put links up to them shortly. They are just short engine rev videos. I have the MXP exhaust and I added the MXP Resonated Test Pipes. Its loud as ****....but I love it! A lot of people mentioned how raspy it can be and it was pretty raspy at certain throttle inputs and RPM ranges. However, when I let someone else drive it and stood outside, I didn't hear the rasp at all. I also realized how well insulated the cabin was from outside sound because the exhaust was much louder than I thought from listening on the inside. I've only gotten pulled over by cops so they could get a closer look at the car and listen to exhaust - no bull****.

Sorry...the last video (which is the most important) is the crappiest - but you can hear the deeper tone of the exhaust with the RTPs.

I'll be installing my HFC's this weekend or the next (as soon as they arrive). I'm planning on posting a thread and review on the setup. Be watching for it since I won't pull punches, if its crappy (I doubt it) I'll be sure to let everyone know. Both the pluses and the negatives will be spoken about.
