This just doesn't make sense to me at all. I mean to each his own for sure, but why are you trying to be quicker if you are not going to use it? Why spend money on mods to make the car faster (which tend to be expensive) if you are not going to actually be going fast? Why not work on handling and aesthetics instead? Will make the car maneuver better, stock is still quicker than a lot of cars on the road and it wont break your wallet. IDK just seems like a pointless quest from what you are explaining to us...hope this doesn't sound like bashing cuz its not! Just trying to understand.

I understand what you are saying. This would mostly be for freeway on-ramps and stop lights, etc. I will be 'using it' every day, just probably won't be redlining nearly as much as I would on a track. Most guys don't go to the track with their Aston Martins or Jaguars, so why do they dish out $ for a fast car then? Because these sporty luxury coupes look fantastic and give you a rush when you push them. I searched a LONG time for a used car as I wanted the best combination of classy looks, performance, and reliability for the price, and I think I got it for under $30k. These 4.08's seem like they would fit right into that combination. I would also much enjoy knowing that if I needed to, off the line, I could beat or at least compete with cars that I shouldn't be able to. (I don't like the fact that Hyundai's copycat G could beat ours, or that we have to accept that all the 335's around town are flat out much quicker than our G's) The prospect of an otherwise stock G37 that can potentially get into the upper 4's 0-60 at an additional cost of maybe a little more than a grand sounds nice, even if I don't actually go to a strip for a timed run. I will still be using my right foot plenty around town. And at some point the desire to take it to a track might be overwhelming enough for me to do just that. Are there not a lot of us who feel this way? "Would you like a 10% boost in acceleration, across the board, without popping the hood, for an additional 5% cost of your vehicle?" Who answers 'no'?

I'm pretty sure a 4.08 gear swap will cost you more than a grand. The gears might not be that expensive, but the shop time to swap them and get them to play nice are definitely pricey.

Well I was thinking maybe $1500 tops, which would be about 5% of the cost of the vehicle. There's a thread on here where someone used Baker Tuning at Baker Nissan here in Houston, so I'd have to talk with them to get an estimate, but does that sound about right? I do have a 6mt coupe so it should be a lot simpler and cheaper than if I had an automatic.

I'm sorry, I haven't done it myself, so I cannot comment much on anything more accurate than "a lot" regarding pricing. However, I remember seeing a thread on the forum about a member who did the swap. He outlined the process, and the troubles they ran in to. You might want to look it up.

Yeah, since I started this thread I've read most every thread about gear swaps on here, including links to 370Z sites, but don't think I've found a total cost for the swap on a manual coupe. Most of the talk focuses around putting 4.08's or 3.92's into automatics, and the complications therein. The main question I have about it regards the need or lack of need for a beefier LSD. I'm guessing stock would be fine, as I'm not increasing engine output over stock, but I have no idea if I'm correct or not. Someone has 600whp and was talking about the need for a new LSD, but I'm running less than half of that.

Look and sound stock I would recommend

Driver mod+
1.) 3.90 or 4.08 FD gear
2.) Southbend stg 1 or 2 quiet clutch, HD CSC, Southbend XD flywheel
3.) Aluminum Driveshaft (CF if want quieter)

Those are my list of future mod list, I'm actually waiting on the seller to ship out my 4.08 FD gears

Labor costs varies, I've been quoted from $450~500 parts not included. Its a direct swap (MT only) and no you don't need a LSD upgrade that's if you're not planning to have high whp vehicle.

Every single one of my customers who has installed the STILLEN Gen 3 intakes has seen/felt a noticeable gain in power. 5-10 is not that noticeable. 15-20 You can definitely feel. Will it take a lot of time off your 0-60? No, but you will feel a difference. If you are looking to be noticeably faster then FI is the way to go. There are tons of dyno sheets of G37's and 370Z's making 315-325 whp with Intake, headers, testpipes/HFC's, and Exhaust (with a tune). The motordyne manifold added to that can get you a little further as well as pulleys.

Will that 50 whp gain get you huge changes in how fast your car is? Depends on how big of a difference you are looking for. Gearing will make your car a lot quicker but will change cruising RPM's and Gas mileage a little. There are plenty of ways to make your car faster, but doing it without making it any louder is gonna be tough. A supercharger with a mild exhaust would be your best bet. Unless you can do the install yourself you are looking at a fair bit more than $6000.
