Rattling Noise under the G37, bought 5 days ago (video)
I have a 08 with 107,000 kms - I get that rattling underneath the mid front center. It is more pronounced when I press the gas lightly between 1100 and 1300 RPMs. Did anyone get their issue fixed? I saw one above being the exhaust...
So... answering my own question - after a visit to Infiniti dealership - they say both front catalytic converters will need to be replaced because the rattle is coming from there and possibly the 02 sensors - $3746 CDN (incl parts, labour, taxes). Or I can wait until August since emissions warranty is good until 130k or 8 years and hope for a engine light to come on where they can pull the code for both and get it done under warranty - but the likelihood is slim...
I took my 08' to the dealership today, ive had it for a year with an extended warranty, they completely replaced the muffler free of charge, out of good will because apparently the my extended warranty does not cover it.
I'm having the same problem, I have a 2009 g37s with 109k miles on it and I have the same rattle underneath the drivers seat near the catlityic converter and downpipe. Did you get yours fixed by the dealer?
Dealer saw it and said it's both catalytic converters - but they won't replace even though it's under warranty for 8 years 130kms - and I'm at 107kms - because I need an engine light before they will replace it under warranty - it's crazy - sounds like I'm driving an old beater! So I will wait it out until 130km or Aug 2015 when my warranty ends hopefully I'll get a check engine light with a code saying the cat's are bad.
Chevy S-10's exhaust were notorious for the cats heat shield rattling. And they use to have some monster cats on them too. For a real cheap quick fix to kill the rattling noise till you can get it fixed proper is to wrap it a few times in reinforcement tape. 1 inch, 2 inch... Works like a charm believe it or not. If that is indeed what the rattling noise is. It won't catch on fire. If anything it will just melt over time, then eventually rot.
Thanks for the advice ColumbiaSkinny. I was thinking about doing something to get rid of the rattling - maybe drill a screw into it or something. I want to wait it out until August when the warranty dies. What sucks is I can't tell and the tech can't tell which cat is rattling - he claims both are rattling - so it's a $3k fix.
