Are headers worth the gains?

Hi all,

I am new to this site so any info is appriciated.

I have a 2009 x sedan and had the K&N short ram intake and BullyDog programmer installed about 1 month ago. I have also just ordered the stillen exhaust.

Someone told me the headers would be a good performance upgrade but reading some threads here makes it a little confusing.

Is there anything else I can add to increase the HP/TQ that would cost about the same as the headers but give me better results?

Thanks

I would go with high flow cats, if you want more power.

no. install - unless you can do it yourself, is quite expensive. plus...550 retail for headers doesn't justify the power you make

Stillen exhaust is a cat-back, meaning it replaces everything after the cat's. You'll still have them, it's illegal in several states to run without them, but the high flow cats can usually pass CARB. It'll make the stillen exhaust sound louder as well if you go that route.

overall the install of normal headers is not worth the minimal gains from the modification. if you live in an area that does not require catalytic convertors get long tube headers, these will be worth the money of install if you want headers for your car. Long tube headers remove the catalytic converters from the exhaust system. But considering the parts alone for long tube headers is $1,500 + install ($500). Most people dont bother going this route only because if you decide to go FI these parts can't be used and will need to be unistalled, as well as not being able to pass smog/inspection.

Yes they are all right the headers are some $$ I am going to do them at some point for the fact that I always wanted to do to. I have the Stillen exhaust as well it does help if you have the cats from still. But I have heard not only that it makes it louder in a great way but you occasionally get a light on your dash that comes and goes as it pleases I guess but with that being said I am still doing all 3 by the end of the year

Short answer, no. Headers are not worthwhile.

The G37 already has headers, although most would call them "shorties", but there it is anyway.

You're probably referring to long-tube headers, which would eliminate your cats.

Good to know. I thought about getting them and doing an before and after dyno to see what the gains would be but no money.
