R2C vs Hoses & Drop in Replacement

Hey Everyone,

I've had the R2C intake for as long as I can remember and I have a question regarding its performence vs replacement hoses and drop in filters.

Hypothetically, what should be giving more HP here;

1) R2C

or

2) Mishimoto Intake Hose Kit + HKS Super Hybrid drop in filters

FWIW, keep in mind that I have an ARK CBE as well as F.I RHFC's (should have them in a week or two), then UpRev after that.

Also, what would be better for the engine on a long term scale?

Feedback?

I believe the only intakes that yield any HP gains are the stillen gen 3, takada, and Injen (maybe) Cold air intakes.

You may get better gas mileage with the RC2, but it would probably be minimal.

I don't think either one of the setups in your question would be different from one another except MAYBE sound of the exhaust.

Isnt heatsoak more apparent in the R2C than the other set up I mentioned, and wont heatsoak hurt hp?

I'm curious about the same thing. Which offers the most HP increase and the best throttle response? I think that the general consensus between the three is marginal.

Stock Intake Tubes

I'm adding the Mishimoto Intake Hose Kit to my 2010 G37Xs Sedan. When I looked at the stock intake tubes connected to the intake, I saw some extra parts on the tubes. Take a look at these:

08 09 2010 Infiniti G37 Air Intake Hoses VQ37 370Z | eBay

You'll see additional plastic parts attached to the tubes and each side is different. My question is what are these additional parts for? Are they needed? Replacing the stock tubes with either the Mishimoto Intake Hose Kit or other after market intakes will remove these extra parts.

Short RAM Intake

I saw these on eBay:

Red Infiniti G37 3 7L V6 Base Sport Journey Air Intake Kit 2008 2009 2010 | eBay

The item's listed for non AWD models only. I have a 2010 G37Xs Sedan. Why won't this intake fit in an AWD model? Is the stock intake kit the same for all the models? If not, what's the difference? Tube sizes (diameter, length, etc)? Filter size?

With the R2C intake system the air filters sit in a box that when the hood is closed it keeps the heat out. The only opening is in on the front side of the box that allows fresh air from the front grill through

In regards to the ebay linksyou are posting, the car will directly be sucking in the heat that is in the engine bay because there isnt anything that is shielding the filters.

Thanks I already the disadvantage of this kind of system. I was just wondering why this particular kit won't fit the X model. Isn't the stock intake the same for all models?

The are not needed. They help cut down on certain frequencies to keep the intake noise at a minimum. With most aftermarket intakes you don't reuse them.

Thanks. I understand now. They work like old fashioned wind pipes, creating different sound frequencies depending on their length and width.

No one has answered the original question. Is the stock intake the same for all models (Journey, Sport and AWD) or is it different? If it's different, then what's the difference?

The OEM intake boxes are the same on all G cars 2007 and up (35, 37, coupe, sedan) and the 370z.

Those extra parts (plastic little rectangular looking things) are in fact needed at least with the stillen CAI. otherwise your car will throw a cel. do not lose things either because they can only be purchased as a whole replacement $200+.

To answer the O.P's question, most of the intakes have been shown to not improve HP significantly. They do change the sound of your exhaust and the sound of your car bringing in air.The stillen G3 gives the most HP but it requires cutting some plastic in the bumper support section to install it. If you're not going with a real CAI like the stillen just get some aftermarket drop in filters, you'll see better HP gains with HFC or test pipes.

If the OEM Intake is the same, then why does this Ebay intake state that it won't fit a G37X? Does the AWD model have a different intake?
