Intake

This question isn't directed towards any single brand or company. I'm just curiouse of the 3gen intake systems. The ones that go around the radiator and has the filters directly behind the grill. When it rains or if you drive through puddles, or lakes (large puddles on the roadways that cause large splashes) does your intake have an issue with sucking in water? I have had friends hydrolock their motors on their Hondas and Nissans and really have no hopes of doing it to any of my vehicles. No, I do not own one, as I'm waiting for a good deal, and not entirely sure that this is the car I want. I'm still looking for what is right to me. Either way. What have you guys done to avoid internal water damage via intakes? Thanks in advance.

In order to hydrolock, the filter has to be completely submerged in water. If you're driving through water that is as high as the top of your radiator, you have other issues to worry about.

According to the G community the Stillen Gen 3 doesn't hydra-lock... but there is no 100% guarantee of that. I purchased the GEN 2 since I live in Miami Florida and don't want to have any percentage of issues.

IMO I did so because if you take a look at both pages at Stillen's site and on the bulleted list for GEN 2 it says "No Chance of Hydrolocking" as one of the bullets.

It doesn't say that on the GEN 3 page. So id imagine its not a 100 percent guarantee. I just didn't want to take any risk.

I have had the Gen3's for about 10 months now...and I've driven it through rain that is bad enough I could see ~50 feet in front of the car. I've had huge SUV's throw waves of water over the G, and there has been ZERO problems. I've even gotten out and checked the filters after those incidents and the filters aren't even wet, damp maybe, but not wet. Like JLai said, it would very literally have to be completely submerged in water to hydrolock, which at that point you have bigger problems.

I'd be worried about drowning before worrying about that hydrolock

+1 on that. With this recent bad weather in So Cal, I've had no problems, I have the Gen3 Intakes.
