Something caught onto my exhaust...

While I was driving on the freeway, some plastic wrap got under my car, and stuck to the exhaust. Obviously, heat and plastic are not friends. The thing is, I removed as much of it as I could, and I still notice a burning plastic smell, which is probably the plastic that has melted onto the exhaust. Any recommendations on getting the melted plastic off the exhaust? The smell is bothering me. Thanks in advance.

Am I having a bad case of deja vu or did you post this somewhere else? I remember reading this like 2 weeks ago, maybe on a different forum and Tony from Fast Intentions chimed in.

If not, then someone else had the same exact issue as you lol...

Scrape it off with a razor blade when the car is cool.

The same has happened to me before.

You'd have to get under the car and take off the remaining plastic. The part that is stuck on the exhaust (mid pipe, for me), can be picked off after the car is cool. If not, maybe try some detail spray? But since it's under the car, you probably can't care much about how it looks, as long as most of the pieces are taken off.

I used to see this all time when I changed oil and stuff. After a couple days of driving and it melting/burning off, the smell should go away. You could always smell the fresh ones, but the ones that had been there for a while didn't smell at all.

When we train we get burnt rubber on our exhaust pipes from the cones on the courses. We use a heavy duty grille cleaner to remove the burnt rubber from the exhaust then polish it back up with a wax. Good luck!
