HFC and Smog Check

The metallic high flow cats that we (Fast Intentions) use as well as Berk Technology, are Magnaflow/Carsound OBD II compliant in 49 states. Guess what, California being the one state it is not. You may pass the sniffer however, you will not pass visual. If it gets overlooked by the inspector then consider yourself lucky.

Aside of that a 2008 G37 in California doesn't need to be smog tested until 2013 or 2014. 5 to 6 years after the purchase date.

Most people that go with a high flow cat due to the fact that they want similar performance gains of the resonated test pipes without the gas smell, or too much of an increase in noise.

Is it possible for someone with HFCs to get smog-tested "off the record" just to see if it'll pass the sniffer? I'm kinda curious about that.
