My fuel pump drives me nuts. Hisss...hisshisss...hisss.

I read on a q50 forum that sound is “normal”. Not sure I believe this. So, does yours hiss too?

If you sit at idle in quiet place, what can you hear besides your exhaust? Anything? I hear snakes behind me.

I got snakes also.

I have gotten an evap small leak in the past which I believe is the culprit however the code happens once in a blue moon. I just deal with it, annoying as it is.

I’m going for ultra quiet. You think if I replace the entire fuel pump assembly this sound will go away?

Hard to say. You need to findout first if the hiss is coming from the pump or if its gasses escaping from the tank.

Did you always hear the sound or is it noticeable now that you added tons of leather and sound deadening insulation? I'm sure you could hear a pin drop after all that work you did to the interior...

On my Coupe I don't hear a thing coming from the fuel pumps unless I put my ear to the seat. Even then the "whirring" is barely audible.

I'm old school. If it ain't broke....

So Sobe, my hissing can ONLY be heard from the outside. At no point I hear it inside.

One of the things you could try is to compare the sound to the fuel pump priming sound that happens when you put the car in "On" position.

@ILM-NC G37S @BULL Thanks for the feedback guys. It’s definitely coming from right where the fuel pump is under the passenger side rear seat. Mechanic just called me and says it’s normal. I’m not buying that, it’s pretty loud. Sounds like a loud computer or static, hard to explain. I can only hear from inside. Too much sound deadener to hear outside over the exhaust.

In other ****ty news. Mechanic says my brand new brakes are warped and ruined. Like how the hell? Literally just replaced them 2 months ago. Z26 kit (pads/rotors/lines). The rotors looked like they weren’t grabbing evenly and one squeaks loud. Mechanic says they are trash. There’s a thousand bucks down the drain. I’m so mad. Ugh... I have the worst ****ing luck with cars.

Mine is more of a hum than a hiss. Though, admittedly, after decades of living with my version of "Motormouth Maybelle" my hearing is not as acute as it once was. Still, only when I put my ear to the seat can I hear it at all.

Sucks about the brakes. Bad batch, perhaps?

Either that, shipping issues or they weren’t properly broken in. Just got off the phone with warranty department. Hopefully that ends up in my favor.
