Rear Seat Belt Locked In Stowed Position

I don't have problems with my 2013 G37X Sedan but my son has my 2005 G35X sedan. The 2005 has never been in an accident. The left rear seatbelt is locked in the stowed or in position. At times gently pulling on it or playing with it will allow the seatbelt to unlock and be pulled out for use, When it releases you need to smoothly pull it out far enough because if you stop short it relocks and will only go back in. With 175,000 miles in it I'm looking for a quick fix.

Is the seatbelt assembly for the center rear passenger interchangeable with the left rear seatbelt assembly? The center seatbelt assembly is never used and essentially brand new. The left and right seatbelts are used daily by the grandchildren in their booster seats. Don't need the center one at this time.

I can remove the liner in the trunk to get at both the seatbelt retractors. They should just unplug and unbolt. To get the other end the rear seat must be removed. Can it just be pulled up from the front bottom to release it? Will I need to remove the trim behind the rear seat below the rear window??

Thanks in advance,

Grandpa

'05 service manuals here:

It's possible seatbelts have a lifetime warranty since they are safety equipment. Worth asking a dealer that question.

Do you have a similar link to the 2013 G37 Sedan Manual in case I should need it?
