Changing battery

Have had to get boosted on my 2010 original battery a few times now and decided to change this morning
However when I disconnected the positive side I noticed a tiny bracket chewed up... I didn't think much of it till I saw a black wire that looks like it goes to nowhere

Anyone know what this could be
Owned the car for 3 yrs and i dont have anything aftermarket that i installed
Someone before you added something.
Why not follow the wire and see where it goes?

If it is coming from the neg battery terminal it is probably a ground wire

From the picture its hard to tell but if that's the same wire that's going back towards the driver side under that vent then yeah, probably an old set of fog lights or even a super misplaced ground but I highly doubt that. As stated, the only way to know is to follow it..

Put a meter on it and ground, do you get voltage? If no, change to continuity mode, do you get a sound or 0Ω of resistance? If so it's a ground.

Does everything work on the car? If yes, then just disregard it.

Check ground just because you need to get jump starts
