Hi,

I do see the DIY for differential fluid change.

Question: What is the consequences if you do not change the differential fluid? Visually, it looks fine on outside & no fluid stain. Also, what kind of noise or sign that you have indicates you WILL need to change the differential fluid.

If you hear noise, it's too late. I would do at 30K, 60K max.

 

I bought my car at 21k miles and it just hit 62k miles and I'm planning on doing mine soon hopefully

 

Consequences~Oil breaks down which decreases its' lubricating properties, this leads to higher operating temps, which could lead to gear failure.

 

Probably - nothing. Possibly - damage or accelerated wear to your rear end. There's no sign telling you to change it. Just like your motor oil. But the question is, why wouldn't you?

I too need to change some fluids. I bought my car at 39,000

I have no idea if the previous owner changed out the rear diff fluid or the gear oil.

I have changed out the motor oil to Amsoil and filter.

I also bought Amsoil severe gear diff fluid. Will I need to add additives so it won't have chatter?

 

its so easy to do, just do it yourself for the cost of 2 quarts of gear oil.

 

It is literally as easy as changing your motor oil. Why you wouldn't do it every 30K is beyond me.
