Starter question... It spins 😱

So today is the second day in a roll that my 08 g doesn't turn on right away. I press the button and I can only hear the starter spin but no crank. And shortly after a decently loud grind. Not as in starter flywheel grind. I try a couple more times and turns on right away. During the rest of the two day all worked fine. Any ideas on what I could be? I find it wierd that stater only spins and does not engage. Heeellllppppp... I order a new stater already but it won't be here until Monday and it was kind of expensive so if I can fix without replacing I can always return it. Please any insight??

The starter solenoid kicks the Bendix drive out to engage the flywheel.

Solenoid on the starter or a bad bendix drive is the issue.

With the old starter out, take it apart and check for dried up grease.
I suspect if you clean and re-grease it will be fine.
