Hi everyone, I am new to this sub and am trying to learn more about my car. I just bought my g37 2 weeks ago, and wanted to know if the tires that the previous owner put on the car are any good. I believe all of the tires are all season, and I live in florida so I think that I am losing a bit of performance by not using summer tires, correct me if I am wrong. In the front are Fuzion Touring tires, and in the back are HTR A/S p02 tires. I have the stock rims that come with the 2009 journey sedan. Please let me know if these are crap tires or are good enough to use for a while, as they have most of the tread still. Thanks

First of all, mismatched tires front and rear are not good. The Fuzion tires are made by Bridgestone. They aren't generally considered to be very good. I'd personally never consider them for my car. Here's where they fall in the Tire Rack consumer survey.

But not only do you have two different brands and tread designs, you have two different categories (grand touring and all season) of tire. That's not good. Think of it like wearing one running shoe and one casual loafer on each foot. Get a set of matching tires. Summer tires if you care about performance, all seasons if you want better tread life or you drive in weather below 35 or 40 degrees for more than a few days a year.

Thank you for your reply I really appreciate it. It doesnt get very cold where I live so I would get summer tires, but I would like them to last at least 15k miles. Do you have any suggestions for good summer tires with decent tread and performance? Hopefully around $150. Thanks

Yes. No. Michelin Pilot Super Sport are fantastic max high performance summer tires. But I believe they're more expensive than your budget and I don't think they come in your stock size.

You have to keep in mind that your original tire size is not a performance tire size and lots of the best choices will not be made in that size. If you choose to go with a "plus 0" tire size (a lower profile and/or wider tire that still fits safely on the same wheel) you'll have more choices.

Plus 0 sizes for your wheels are 235/50/17, 255/50/17, 235/55/17, and really aggressive 255/45/17.

I went with the BFG Sport Comp 2 that are in the "High Performance Summer tire" catagory that come in the OEM size 225/50/17. And their a really solid choice if you want to stick with the OEM size and very wallet friendly priced. I paid $750ish for all 4 tires + mount and balance and BFG had a $70 rebate as well so i came out pretty good.

But as BB mentioned going with a little wider tire and a lower profile (ex: 235/50/17) will give you more options, especially in the Max Performance Summer tire category....

Thanks for the replys BB and Columbia. I was born in Columbia actually! How many miles could I expect to get out of the BFG Sport Comp 2s with moderate enthusiasm? They seem to be the leading tire for me right now in OEM size, for $450 for the set. Also how much was it to mount and install/balance? Surely not an extra $300 no? Also it says on tirerack that the tread rating is higher on the Sport Comp 2s than on the all seasons I have on now. Does this mean that they would last longer all things constant?

I rotated my tires at 5k miles and the wear was really good. My guesstimation would be 30-40k (35k sounds more realistic) but that's just guessing. Somewhere in that ball park doesn't seem impossible if you rotate them every 5k miles. You could probably get more but i would say that's what i would expect before losing the performance ability of the tire. Again, just guessing as i haven't had to get new tires since purchasing them new.

I'll have to check what the charge was on mount and balance, the paper work is in my glove box so i'll post it up to get a general idea, as it can very from place to place, as soon as i find out what they charged me....

Please do, it would be cool to see. And I am surprised that the BFGs would last that long, anything above 20k is pretty impressive for summer tires I feel like.

"Labor" came to $129.00. Mount & balance and a 6% shop fee (install cost). Total was $710.00...
