Slop in steering column

Hi. I have noticed that once my wheel lowers into its down position, I can give it a tug downward and it moves another half inch. Once I do that, it cannot be moved until I exit the car and the column moves back up.

Does anyone else have this, and what would cause that to happen?

Thanks

With my 2012 I noticed the same, but it is only about an 1/16th to an 1/8th of an inch. I did take it to the dealer, and they said it was "normal" and was seen on other cars on their lot. Not sure, if I believe this, so I'm waiting for my next trip to the dealer, to try this on a new car.

I took it to the dealer for service and they ended up replacing the steering column under warranty. The did not indicate what the source of the problem was. Now it stays put. Hopefully this one lasts more than 20k.

To the OP, did you have the car set to raise/lower the console each time you entered/exited the car? I bet that does wear things out over time.

Yes I did have it set to raise on exit. I'm going to deactivate that to minimize wear on the column. Thanks!

I always wondered about these things. There's an option to have the seat go back too (not sure if it's the same option as the column or not). That's turned off in my car too.

I have that setting turned on in my car. For someone who is 6'2" it makes it much easier to get in and out of the car.

I notice that as well recently. pulled myself forward to see around an acute corner and i felt the steering wheel move down a fraction of an inch. Think I'll have the dealer take a look.
