Help clicking above 3500 rpm
2009 G37X sedan with automatic and tech package. I did several searches only clicking I could find was VVEL related and this doesn't match the description in those posts and one You Tube video.

Remember the sound that's made when a kid puts a playing card in the spokes of their bicycle? Well that's similar to the sound I get above 3500 rpm. It's also very similar to the sound a GM car makes when the speedometer cable is sticking. Except no gauges are bouncing like the GM speedo would, and the sound, sounds like it's coming from behind the tach. It does resemble the noise a valve holding air pressure would make when opening and closing rapidly. No turbos on this car plus the sound doesn't match the sound that much air pressure and air volume would produce. GMs old AIR emissions system that pumped air into the exhaust manifold also made a similar sound, but never this fast. I'll try to record the sound and post a follow up, but the playing card in the spokes sound is really close, the second best sound description is the GM speedo cable and that's not all that close.
The sound increases in intensity the higher the rpm, the louder it gets, and there is no sound below 3500. It is rpm related and not gear related when I put the car in manual mode the sound happens whether I'm in 3, 4 or 5th gear. The sound also happens with the AC on or off, and with the BOSE stereo on or off. The sound enters the passenger compartment on the far left side of the dash or the door (I thought at one point it might be static popping the speaker). A car I used to have had a MSD 6A ignition module mounted in the interior and solid core ignition cables, makes for some interesting stereo system interference. I've ruled anything like that out in this case.
I've listened to the videos of VVEL noise, plus I've owned a lot of Honda's and GMs in the past this is NOT valve noise. It's also a lighter sound than a valve knock, plus the car has all it's normal power during the clicking. It slightly resembles a bad CV joint noise but the symptoms don't match and gearing would change the speed of the axle. So I don't believe it's CV related.

If I were to venture a guess this car has a mechanical tachometer and the cable needs lubing or replacing. As electronic as this car is though, I'm figuring that guess is wrong.
