How much should I expect to spend to replace front windshield?
A year ago, a small rock fell off a dump truck bounced and hit my front windshield. The crack expanded this winter and now runs across most of the front windshield.
How much should I expect to pay to get it replaced by a company that will replace it in my parking lot?

Non-insurance replacement may be anywhere from $150 to $400 plus whatever costs may be tacked on for the mobile service. My search shows an average of about $250 to $275 for the G37 not including any extra charges for mobile service. I don't know if that is windshield only or including labor.
Thanks - I'm not going to go through insurance. I have a wife and 17-yr-old daughter on my insurance policy and will add my 15-yr-old son before too long so I'm trying to involve the insurance company as little as possible.
Out of curiosity, what brand glass has Safelite used?
I had a chip repaired by them a few months ago and it's starting to expand so I am going to take them up on their offer to credit the repair cost towards a new windshield.

Incidentally as I type this I'm waiting at a local indepent glass shop that charges $130. Non OEM. The place is deep in the hood, looks like a shack, and looks like the techs came straight from doing long stretches in the pen. But every single review I found is 5 star. Unlike Safelite.
I can ask which glass they use while I'm here if you want. Why not call your local Safelite that you're getting service from and just ask them?
I asked what brand the glass was. He laughed. He said he didn't know, but that almost all auto glass comes from one of 3 actual manufacturing facilities in China. I have no idea how true that is. He said his distributor can sell him the exact same windshield marked as LOF, PPG, or others and charge accordingly but that it's the same exact part. Maybe true, maybe BS.

Make sure they are using OE or OEE glass. I had my windshield replaced by a local shop for around $300. They used Pilkington glass for my replacement. Ford, GM, Toyota have used them as the original equipment.
$300 was a good price as compared to the $800-$900 it would cost me to put back in what Nissan/Infiniti used as OE.

The next to last manufacturer on this page, The Fuyao Group Limited, is the glass I got for $100 + $30 labor. The shop owner told me exactly what it says there, that they manufacture for many OEM applications and the only difference between that glass and the aftermarket glass they sell is the logo they put on it. He told me that they'd even put the name of his shop on the windshields if he wanted to but that it would increase his price so he doesn't do it.
OEM, OEE, and Aftermarket Auto Glass Brands we sell
NOTE this is not the shop I used, just something I found online.

I don't know, didn't ask or care. It's non OEM like almost all glass places outside of a dealership so it doesn't really matter to me unless they use absolute garbage which they don't.

I think more important than the glass used is the skill of the tech. Proper prep and replacement methods will ensure trouble free service for years to come. Poor prep may result in leaks.
Yeah, I realize it won't be OEM, I was just curious. Safelite told me they don't know what windshield they will end up with so I figured I would ask around and see what the consensus was. The only response I've had is someone got a Pilkington windshield, which is actually a really nice brand. I'll just end up having it done and be fine with whatever it is I just wanted to make sure they weren't some bottom of the barrel windshield at the same price as a Pilkington or PGW replacement which tend to be a little bit better quality.
