is mobil 1 synthetic atf ok for the 7speed trans

couldn't find any info on this board on whether mobil 1 synthetic atf is okay to be used in the g37 7speed auto trans? i was wondering if anyone here has it in their vehicle. i recently had the trans serviced at the infiniti dealer and i was able to speak to the technician and found out their dealer uses redline atf. speaking with the tech gave me an oppurtunity to find out what tool was required for the trans service. i have since bought the tool and it only cost $270 including shipping. i would like to know if mobil 1 is a compatible fluid to nissan matic s so when i service my trans i can use a trans fluid i know is of higher quality and specifications.

Redline fluids are a great choice of fluids. I would have no problems if my service tech replaced all of my fluids with Redline. As long as the replacement fluid meets or exceeds OEM specifications, you should be OK.

Can you provide info on the tool you're talking about? Does it flush fluid through the system like the dealership does?

J-49829 Transmission Oil Fill Kit (J49829)

the fill pump kit is made by otc. search online for available vendors or if you have a snapon, matco, or mac tools guy they can get it for you too. this is the tool used at the dealer and it comes with the correct adapter that fits onto the bottom of trans pan when you pump fluid into the trans.

there are cheaper versions of trans fluid pump kits available at local parts stores like autozone or pep boys but they don't have the correct adapter and that would only make a mess if you are doing the trans service on your back on the floor of your garage.

google the part number and you will see what the tool kit looks like.

The Automatic ATF in Nissan/Infiniti's should not be replaced with non-OEM fluid imho.

The OEM equivalent fluid even though they can make "compatible" can cause issues.

If you have an Manual - then I would say choose whatever aftermarket oil that meets or exceeds specifications - but for Auto I would stick with OEM or you are likely going to run into trouble down the road. That's just my 2 cents though.

Experience: Nissan K-Matic trans fluid drian and fill vs. friend whom switched to K-Matic equivalent/exceed oem specs fluid.

If the dealer runs redline, then you will be okay. I didn't know this when I flushed my 7 spd auto. did mine with reline without issues. it's been in for several thousands mile now. btw, i have 100k + on my 09 sedan...

I had to change the radiator in my 2009 G37. I know that some transmission fluid leaked out so i need to add maybe a 1/2 quart or so.

Has anyone tried to use a regular fluid pump? the "Transmission Fill Pump", J-49829 seems like too much of an expense for me to add a small amount of Matic S.

I'm thinking about rigging something up that should work (some adapter?). Just looking for some ideas.

Thanks

Here you go, costs about $3 for the vacuum fitting and about $5 for the Harbor Freight pump, but you will need a helper.

Infiniti claims the 7 speed is lifetime. I definitely can see wanting to change it out as I am not a believer in "lifetime" fluids. but at what miles are you guys doing this? Plus are you going through the procedure necessary per Infiniti? Its not just a drain and fill....although I read one procedure was just draining and filling every 3 to 5 years without the monitoring of temp etc.

Did mine at 72k miles, and unlike the Infiniti FSM I also removed the pan to clean the sludge buildup and pan magnets. I would highly recommend removing the pan as well if you're over 60k miles. Check the DIY link, it's a good, thorough process. Mine still exhibits improved shifting 8k miles since.

I followed the directions in this link
https://www.myg37.com/forums/d-i-y-in...rop-clean.html

I ended up adding 2.5 quarts. The pump and vacuum fitting with Teflon tape worked just perfect. Darn Infiniti for not adding a dipstick! lol

Thanks all for the help!
