Oil/Fluid Change Questions
Oil/Fluid Change Questions
Okay guys, I just picked up a 2008 G37 last Friday and I wanted to do some basic maintenance to keep everything running good. I've been reading on the forum today to find the answers to the various questions I had but just wanted to make sure...aside from the transmission oil (https://www.myg37.com/forums/d-i-y-i...ssion-oil.html) and the rear differential oil (https://www.myg37.com/forums/d-i-y-i...-gear-oil.html), are there any other fluid changes underneath the car that needs to be taken care of?
Also, what brand/weight do members use? On the DIY guides, BB stated that the FSM states to use "Genuine NISSAN Differential Oil Hypoid Super GL-5 80W-90 or API GL-5, Viscosity SAE 80W-90" but he used Amsoil Severe Gear 75W90 instead. What was the reason for he different weight? Are there other brands available that's good as well?
Finally, from what I've read on the forum, it looks like the general consensus for motor oil is Mobil 1 5w30 so that's what I'll be using.
Thanks in advance for the help.

If your don't know the maintenance history of the car, it is probably a good idea to assume that all of the fluids in the car are original. I would definitely swap out the brake fluid and replace it with something like Motul 5.1 or RBF600 or Super Blue.
I think BB just likes Amsoil, I used Mobil 1 for my diff fluid. If you have the VLSD, I recommend choosing a fluid that already has the friction modifier included in it. If not, you can buy the friction modifier separately and add it in 1oz at a time.

Thanks for the reply GoFightNguyen. Question though...how can I find out if my car has the VLSD?
Also, is the tranny and rear differential fluids the only 2 down there that I need to worry about? On my current car, I only have the transmission I need to worry about.
Thanks again!

Okay I got that.
I guess what I was trying to ask was are there any other transmission type fluids that needs to be changed besides the tranny and rear differential?
Sorry for the confusion.
And yes, my car is a G37S so I guess it has the VLSD. Good to know...thanks!

Transmission type fluids? I'm not really sure what you mean. There's transmission fluid, differential fluid, oil, coolant, brake fluid, clutch fluid, power steering fluid, washer fluid, gasoline fluid, and 44 oz. big gulp fluid in the car that all need to be changed in their own time.
