First oil change

Im not going to ask what oil or weight everyone uses but when to do the first oil change. The typical is 3750/3 months but my car is a leftover 2013 and I have 1600 miles. When would you do the first change?

I would go ahead and do it at the 3500-ish mark. Oil isn't one of those things that really goes bad just by sitting and not being driven, well, not the same way brake fluid does.

On a brand new vehicle I've always done the first oil change at 2000 miles
That's just me. I'm old school and will never change.

Just did my 12th oil change at the dealer. I've gotten lazy and don't feel like doing oil changes anymore. I did 48 out of the 53 oil changes on my previous 06 G35

They wash and vacuum my car and I get it returned cleaner than when I brought it in.

Many at the dealer come over and ask how my 6 speed is doing as I am one of their few customers that own one. They told me they can no longer obtain a 6sp manual.

Your decision!

AFAIK, oil breaks down with heat and contaminates, not by sitting in the engine unused. Just change it at the recommended first interval. You're fine, man.

There's a particular school of thought that recommends using standard oil on your first oil change, before switching to synthetic on your second. However, engines and oils have evolved enough in the last decade to where I think you can switch to synthetic whenever you want, or not at all. The important thing is to change it at regular mileage intervals per whatever type of oil you use, and to check oil levels regularly. The G's dipstick is perfect... right in front and perfectly straight. Unlike some cars, where the dipstick seems like an afterthought.

Most lame comment of the day, right there.

So I guess the point being is you might drive your car hard in those three months but not hit the miles so should change it.

Some dealers actually have decent drive through laser wash machines now. Although if they are using dirty rags to dry or wipe your car down afterwards that is just bad. Nothing really beats a hand-wash at home.

So I'm going through this same thing right now with my wife's new Forester. I heard two different suggestions from the dealer and the Subaru documentation. The dealer of course recommended an earlier oil change at around 3,000 miles whereas Subaru official documentation says no need for that and change out at 7,500 mile because it's a synthetic factory fill.

In doing some of my own research I decided to change out the factory fill at 3,500 miles just to be cautious since this is a turbocharged motor. I will likely do the second oil change when the car hits between 6,500-7,5000 miles. Subaru was recommending a 7500 OCI with their synthetic oil, but they have revised that figure to a 6,500 OCI for the 2015 model year.

If you're going with a good synthetic oil like Pennzoil Plat/Ultra or Mobil 1 you should be fine to run extended OCIs and change a couple of times a year.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion as I am to mine.

I have a great Infiniti dealer and they do a great job in cleaning my vehicle whenever I bring it in. The front was splattered with bugs from the round trip drive to Florida and they removed them all.

I'm sorry, man. I didn't realize you had spattered bugs on the car. That almost never happens, and when it does, they simply don't come off. Ever. Most people just have their car repainted. Your dealership must be like magicians or something. Lucky guy.
