Which brand of OIL FILTER do u use?

Hey guys,

I really didn't think that OIL FILTERS brands and quality were much different from each other so I just bought about 6 oil filters of PREMIUM GUARD brand from e-Bay for pretty cheap.

Then I bumped into this friend of mine who owns a g35 and after some Infiniti talk I said about my cheap oil filter purchase and he's like WHOA DUDE why the f**k would you buy a cheap crap like that? It's BAD for your engine maan!

So, now I'm confused

Plz help

Is premium guard brand that bad? I checked about it on usaparts or partsusa or something it was a car part selling website and it turns out that premium guard IS the cheapest of them all

I use Bosch Premium filters, and use the bigger M56 filter, much bigger than our puny G filters, my UOAs have been very good (also using Pennzoil Platinum)
I would stay away from the cheapest filters.

You will get tons of conflicting and some outright wrong information. There's already a huge thread on this. Simple answer, yes oil filtration is important. If you change it more frequently, it's less of an issue. There's also a lot of conflicting information on what is good and what is crap. The best answer I can give it to choose a reputable, known brand and you'll be fine.

Personally I use Wix (NAPA Gold are the same filters rebranded) and I have had excellent success even on very high mileage cars (250K+ miles) and long OCI (up to 9700 miles) on Nissan vehicles. YMMV.

And there's the other shoe. I figured you'd be along shortly and wanted to preempt you.

Or you could throw them away and buy something you have more confidence in. Wasn't that the whole point of this thread?

I drive even less and change my oil the same amount as you. And I *still* wont use a cheap no-name filter.

Purolator PureOne filter with Pennzoil Ultra 5W-30. Look at it this way: you change it so little, how much difference does it make if it costs you 10.00 extra each oil change to get good stuff.

Even my 10 yr old TL with 100K+ miles on it gets good oil and filters. Take care of your car and it will take care of you.

I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filters.

After reading blnewt's comment, I may switch over to the M56 size filters.

Make sure they are the Fram Ultra filters. Or the Purolator Pure One, or the Mobil1, or the Bosch premium. There are lots of good choices out there from well known brands and like you said, not too expensive to fix the problem BEFORE they are put on the car.

I use the same. But I don't really know how much it matters. Old civic took whatever filter and oil the shop put in it and wasn't complaining at 150k miles. Granted the G engine is a lot different, but I bet we have problems with everything else on the car before the engine. Unless you are redlining it all the time.
