Car not starting sometimes

So about once a week my car won't start on the first attempt. It will finally start the 2nd or 3rd attempt and not have any issues for 1-3 weeks. Then the same thing will happen.

Had the battery tested (was a lil low) but everything else was fine. The battery is 8 months old and has 575 CCA. Is this not enough amps for my NY winter?

If it isn't the battery any other thoughts? Why would it start after the second attempt and be fine for a week?

sounds like a similar problem I had before...

If your car is MT, it may be the sensor in your clutch that tells the ignition the clutch is engaged as you start the car. I had mine fixed or adjusted under warranty last year.

I was going to suggest cleaning your throttle bodies. Not sure if this is a same situation, but a couple times, i start the car and it died. It would start and die about 3 times, then the 4th try, it stays on after some hesitation. Since I'm still under warranty, I took it the dealer and they replaced my throttle bodies. Going forward, I would just clean them myself. But this could be completely different from your situation.

if your battery and alternator pass, check your starter.

I had the same problem on hot cranking and stalling. It only happens when the car is already driven that day and restart while engine still warm. It stall during the first crank. RPM goes up to normal and dips down below 600 rpm and stall. I replaced the battery and still the same. I finally cleaned the throttle bodies and problem solved! After cleaning the throttle bodies, you need to reset the throttle position sensor. Google procedure. Also while cleaning the those throttle bodies, never flip open the throttle plates or butterfly. It will throw problem codes and will need to replace he throttle bodies.

Suggest a fuel clean system first. Could be the fuel is not getting to the engine quick enough. Car is trying to turn over with no fuel. It happened to my g35 before. Got a fuel system clean and that fixed it.

Like at a repair shop or the STP stuff you throw in with gas?

When my FX had this problem it was the battery, even though autozone said it checked out ok.

I just went to a lube and oil shop like Mr. Lube or something. They do it for you there. The stuff you buy in a bottle might not be strong enough.

Car has been good until now where the weather has gotten colder.

Do we think the battery isn't strong enough?
