quick synthetic question

Ok real sorry for the dumb question but I couldn't find it anywhere...

If I switch to full synthetic (mobil1) what would be the monthly interval for subsequent oil changes? Every 5 months, 6 months, etc?.... I don't rack up alot of miles on it and so its just used as an everyday driver for a couple miles to work. Thank you.

I go ~6months between changes (synthetic or regular). I don't put too many miles on either. After 9 months, car only has ~5500 miles on it. About half are short trips, the rest is 2 lengthy road trips. If you do lots of stop and go, i'd keep some sort of interval between 3500 and 5K miles. That type of driving is considered severe duty. My last o/c was after 4200 miles (penzoil ultra 5w30).

You can look up the blackstone charts on the forum. But usually synthetics can last a lot longer than the 5k interval without much degradation. I remember there was this one guy who ran Eneos 5w-30 (only partially synthetic at the time, they are not fully synthetic) for 10k miles and the oil was pretty much like brand-new. In the end, unless your sending in your oil for testing every 1500 miles or so after it exceeds 5k threshold, it's whatever you are comfortable with. 5500-6500 between a change should not be a problem. This is assuming there are no track days in between this time.

Thanks for the responses. So in my case the mileage won't really apply as the oil interval factor since in a year I'll probably only rack up ~6000 miles on it. It's alot of stop/go short driving so it looks like every 6 months for the oil change would be right...

If you don't drive a lot of miles, I'd go at least a minimum of 6 months before changing. Send that sample in for analysis. If it comes back stellar, you might want to extend it to maybe 9 months or a year and resample.
