hey everyone, did a differential fluid change about 2/3 months ago and noticed a leak on the pumpkin. cleaned it off, changed the fluid and hoped it wouldnt come back. noticed 3 weeks ago that the leak showed up again, but finally got a chance to get under the car while i was polishing the exhaust. the leak was there before i did the fluid change, and is there again. has anyone else had this on their vehicles? i don't quite know if it coming from the differential itself but here are some pictures for reference (the second picture is a shot straight up on the front of the pumpkin on the rear diff:

The yellow stuff??

The leak is your differential bushing. Its a silicone filled bushing that is pressed in the crossmember. The rear of the differential is mounted through the bushing.

See if SPL Energy Suspension, or Whiteline have finally made these as replacements, otherwise you will need to replace the complete rear crossmember.

There is a solid one available, but you'll hate the noise!!

 

Mark aka xcalibur had this exact same issue. He took his to dealer and they replaced his entire rear differential.

This should definitely be covered under the basic warranty. Not sure if this would fall under powertrain though. Should be covered by extended warranty too (if you have that).

any update if its covered under warranty? i also had this stain but i've change rear diff fluid 2 weeks and leak stain hasn't come back.

but i get a lot of wheel hop on hard launches so i'm also looking for more info on these

seems like more info on the370z.com forum and spl makes a solid piece but apperantly will make a lot of noise.

 

warranty covered it, got a new differential and a new driveshaft lol

 

i guess i'll have to keep an eye if leak comes back.

 

I had the same issue, took it to the dealer and they replaced it under my basic warranty, but the thing is that the new subframe warranty is only coverd for 1 year or 12,000 miles, hopefully by then whiteline makes a polyurethane bushing for the 2nd Gen G, the stock ones are garbage

 

was your leak from the diff or just from the bushing?

 

I've got this issue right now. I went in for an oil change the other week and the service guy told me the rear differential bushing is leaking and that the only way to fix it is to replace the rear cross member.

I'm still under warranty so he said I would not be charged.

What I wonder is if they noticed that I have the SPC toe bolts installed. Regardless, I'm going in tomorrow to drop the car off. I'm on coilovers as well so we'll see what happens.

My question is, if they replace the rear cross member, what happens to the SPC toe bolts that were there before? I know some drilling had to take place in order for the bolts to be installed. Will the dealer be able to use the SPC toe bolts in the new rear cross member or will there be issues?

I've never launched my car or really drive it hard (I baby it too much). Would coilovers and sway bars cause the bushing to deteriorate faster?

Looks like this is a common problem. My car is at the dealership for the exact same problem. They are waiting for the rear subframe to ship. Should hopefully get it back by Friday. I'm not sure if they are replacing the diff though.
The basic 60k warranty on my car expired. However it's CPO so it has the extended 100k limited warranty that covers powertrain. The dealership said I would have to pay a $100 deductible. I thought the deductible was only $50. Did any of you face this?
Also is this a common wear n tear problem?

 

just a warning, the g35/350 diff bushings do not fit (are the the same size as) the g37/370z's.

from what i know, SPL has not yet designed nor released a diff set for our chassis. it's not even on their website! the only explanation i can have for the set sold on importpartspro is that they just have the g35/350z set relabeled for the g37/370z thinking that it was forwards compatible. buyer beware and inquire within vendor first. you don't want to go taking everything off first and then realize that it does fit.
