How do you remove the steering wheel bezel?

I tried searching for the last half an hr or so with no luck. I am currently trying to remove the the rubbery bezel around the center part of the steering wheel where it is prone to scratching. I want to remove it to sand and re-paint it, so I won't have to deal with the scratches for good.

Do these things just pry off? or are there more steps to removing the bezel? I searched all over the DIY but with no luck. I would really appreciate it if someone lead me the right way to get these things off.

Thanks in advance!

-Jason

you have to remove the steering wheel from the car. there is a thread on how to do that somewhere around here.

after that, there are four tabs you can access from behind the steering wheel with a flat head screwdriver. It should pop right off after that.

I dont think it is possible to remove the bezel without first taking off the steering wheel, or at least the air bag

No problem! The rubber is a bit hard to get off. A fine grit sandpaper will probably work, but I didn't want to take too much material off, so I just used an abrasive kitchen sponge.

Ended up wrapping it and trying to decide if that's the look I want. Good luck!
