1st oil change

I have just 1 question...after reading all the info on the ester oil discussions, I just want to know if it's ok to use Mobil 1 or Castrol
synthetic. I have 3300 miles and will be doing the change next weekend.

Thanks.

As long as it is 5w30 energy conserving rated it meets Nissan warranty
requirements. Just a friendly reminder to keep the reciepts for oil/filter/change
and document your service record for future reference if needed.

Just to add my two cents and I am no expert on this.

I called my dealer to ask them the oil that they used. They just use a synthetic. So this got me to wondering. I called the Infiniti consumer hotline to ask them about the oil. I said that the manual recommends the Nissan oil, but asked if I could use other oils. They said as long as it met the requirements, you could use whatever you wanted.

So looking at the requirements...

• Engine oil with API Certification Mark
• Viscosity SAE 5W-30

They recommend the Nissan oil, but dont require it.

Given all this, for now, I will be using the Nissan oil. I will see as time goes along.

I just put in Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic 5W-30 and the engine runs great. Actually, it hasn't run this great in a while. Just goes to show that the "value" oil they use at the dealerships are crap. I think my local dealership used something called Orangeline, which was a partial synthetic.

You might want to try the Pennzoil. Given the price of the Nissan ester, the Pennzoil may be a cost effective alternative.

Another vote for Pennzoil. I still say Nissan Ester Oil is a money making scheme. It's RIDICULOUS to pay $12/qt for conventional oil with Ester additives. PERIOD. Grab the new Pennzoil Ultra which looks like it may perform on the same level with the even pricier boutique oils. I've got a 5qt bottle of it sitting in my garage for my next oil change. $28 at Walmart vs $60+ for Nissan oil.....hmmmmmm. Tough choice.

The new Pennzoil Ultra is great. Just put it in and everything is running smooth and quiter than it was. Took it to an autocross yesterday and it ran excellent.

I will definitely keep my eyes on what I hear from the Penzoil Ultra users. I have already purchased enough Nissan oil for my next two changes. Once I use that up, I will see how everybody else is running. Like I found out from the consumer line, you are covered, so it will really be up to preference.

Anyone know the difference between Penn Platinum and Ultra?? I checked their website and didn't really get any significant answers.

They claim the Ultra contains the Ester additives this engine needs (or it's ester based, actualy)

Pennzoil Ultra Update - Bob Is The Oil Guy

^^ That whole thread has a Pennzoil rep answering questions about the new Ultra oil & brochures, etc.

However, someone did a VOA on the Ultra, and the lab noted the additives were very similar to the Platinum's. So it's possible that it's just some marketing.

I changed my oil today with the Penn Ultra. Car seems to like it better...smoother and quieter. I only have 1200 miles on my G, but I did want to change the oil since my car was sitting on the dealer's lot for a few months before I bought it. I'll have to check in the morning to see if Ultra gets rid of the Valve tick.

I also changed my oil today. I bought F1 5W20 synthetic 5 quart bottle and Frame extended oil filter for synthetic oil from Walmart, $23.50 and $7.75 respectively. I had a mechanic shop change it for me for $15 labor. I don't have the tools to do it right now and don't really want to take the risks. I observed him doing it, he had to take out like 19 screws to get the bottom cover off. My question is am I putting enough of 5 quarts for every oil change for my g37?
Is the Frame oil filter good enough?

I think the G take a little over 5 quarts. I bought a 5 qt jug and a single qt bottle and topped it off a bit. But, if you just go with 5 qts, you'll be fine.

Penzoil Ultra has no Ester in it

According to this FAQ by Penzoil on BITOG, Ultra does not have Ester in it.
Pennzoil Ultra FAQ

14.
Has Pennzoil® incorporated any type of Esters into the base oil blend for Pennzoil Ultra™? No ester base oils were used or are required in the Pennzoil Ultra™ range.
