G37 sedan or Acura TLX-S
G37 sedan or Acura TLX-S
I have a 2012 g37 sedan (~100k miles, winter sedan car) and a 2023 acura tlx type-s (~15k miles, summer sedan car). Both owned since new. I bought another car and do not have room for both so one would become the summer & winter sedan car. I'm leaning towards selling the Acura and wanted to get a sounding board from you guys about any considerations I might be missing given it's unusual to sell a newer vehicle in favor of an older vehicle.
G37 Pros
*No mechanical issues; I've serviced it myself since day 1. Straightforward to work on.
*Body is a 9.5/10 cosmetically
*Feels sporty and connected to the road while driving
*Dimensions (length/width/height) are reasonable and make parking easy
*Minimal technology and a bunch of buttons (I hate technology!)
G37 Cons
*Body styling is kind of bland
*Frame has general rusting because it's a Canadian winter car, but overall in very good shape and nothing concerning
*Going to need general wear parts like suspension sooner-or-later given its age
*Rear quarter panels developed through-rust so I cut them out and replaced 2 years ago; repair is holding perfectly so I think it was done properly and i should be good for a long time
*I don't like to do engine work on cars so I imagine eventually it will need timing chain which is an expensive job (although has no indication right now the current chain is anything but fine)
Acura TLX-S Pros
*Body styling is fantastic - aggressive, should age well, nice quad exhaust tips
*Newer - under warranty and no rust since never seen winter
Acura TLX-S Cons
*Does not feel connected to the road when driving (e.g., manual steering vs electronic steering)
*A lot longer and wider - feels like i'm driving a barge on the road (I bought w/o test driving and didn't realize how bloated sedans have gotten today)
*Technology everywhere with touch screens, touch pads, scrolls wheels, etc. (I hate technology!)
*Auto-shifts to park if I put it in reverse and have the door open (makes backing up on to my 4 post lift difficult ... I hate technology driving the car for me!)
*For casual driving it feels slower than the G37 because it's a turbo charged V6 rather than a n/a V6 (have to get on the throttle to feel the difference)
*When out of warranty concerned about how easy to work on (has had 3 recalls - one of them was a loose wire behind the dash; took 10 hours to do because the entire dash had to come out for 1 wire!)
*When washing the body seems to trap a lot of water (e.g., pisses out water 24 hours after I clean it) .... worries me how it will fare when exposed to salty roads
*Expensive to do body repair (got tapped in the rear at <5 mph in the shopping lot and the final bill was almost $4k!)
