Rust Issues

Hi Fellow G37 drivers,

I decided to join this forum to gather information about my G37x 2012 and also to share my experinece so far.

Firstly I love driving this car, it looks amazing, i prefer it over the new body style and I love how fast it is and still is in today's newer cars. Its great in the winter and I live in canada so I get a lot of snow and ice. Oh yeah and it sounds amazing when you hit the gas.

I bought this car 4 1/2 years ago with only 62000kms, the car was showroom condition, and pretty much still is and now I have 150000kms.
The issues i've had have been very expensive and they are not things you can not have repaired.
1- Power steering pump at 70k kms, 900.00 Infiniti paid
2 catalytic converters changed at 70k kms because of rattling, infiniti paid roughly 1200.00 each.
3 Y pipe and resonator assembly both rusted out, had to be replaced about 1 month ago, infiniti would have been over 2000.00 I got it done for 700.00 with new jobber parts and only 1 hour labour.
4 Drivers door won't open, always locked all rusted, needs actuater, price: 550.00 plus 1-2 hours labour at 120.00 an hour.
5 Clock light burnt out, new clock 325.00 will get one for 100.00 online hopepfully.
5 Read license plate light holder, rusted out price: 110.00 with tax

Other than that its been a great car. I worry about the next repair so been thinking of selling and getting something newer.

Thanks.

Thanks.

As much as I encourage people to keep these cars lack of maintenance and rust will be the only two killers for them. They are prone to rusting in the snow and it's just a matter of time until the front drive shaft decides to let go. The driveshaft U joints are known to give over 100k + miles and rust will wear it sooner. Once it gives it will hit anything, most times cracking the block and hitting the frame.

Unless you start buying used good condition parts from the US that will be the only way to save your wallet. Otherwise it will get very expensive.

My recommendation is to trade it for something in the same category/year/cheaper/no rust. Whatever you choose next will fail for rust also, keep that in mind.

Thanks I appreciate your feedback. I guess at this point, I'll wait out the winter and sell it in spring, hopefully nothing else will happen untill then. I had the new resonator assembly painted with BBQ paint to protect if from all the salt that we have here during winter.

#5 is very easy to do on your own... there's a video on youtube. I too am frustrated with rust issues at 105k miles - can't wait for the new Bronco to come out so I can say goodbye to this car.
