G37 guidance on Motor Swap

Hey guys I’m still new to the vqvhr37 platform. I have owned my g37 for a couple of months now. It still brings me joy as it’s pretty quick. I would like to get my motor swapped to a lower mileage vqvhr37. Currently I have 205,2xx and it’s currently a daily. The g37 is fbo and tuned. As of lately, it has been giving me the “200k mileage” problems like misfiring, sensors being bad. The car runs fine but I would like to plan on getting a lower mileage motor. Where would you guys recommend getting a new motor? eBay? Fb marketplace? I’m open to suggestions

I prefer to buy and build alliances local/regionally if possible. How much are you budgeting for a replacement motor? Are you even sure you need one? The sensors (upstream/downstream O2?) that are throwing codes today may transfer to the new used motor. Coil packs or plugs could cause a misfire. What codes are you seeing?

Well I have fixed most of the problems with the g37. It’s going to a shop for a p0011 code. So far I have spent about 2k in maintenance alone. Which I don’t have a huge problem with, just gives headaches when it happens. Currently I’m looking to budget 3k-ish. Supposedly eBay motors go a good price.

Facebook marketplace would be my go to and i would suggest finding a part-out for a Q50 or Q70 with the 3.7. The engine is a direct drop into the g37 with a few things to reuse from your g37 like the powersteering (for the Q50 not, not sure about the Q70 since it uses electric assist rack).

you reuse your engine harness and ecu from you g37 also.

Is it recommended to use a 14-15 q50 motor rather then a 11-13 g37 motor? Also with that could I use a 370z vqvhr37? I don’t know if I can use a 370z or if that even works.

If the VQ37VHR in your G has been maintained on a regular basis, I'd get a UOA on it from Blackstone and determine how worn it really is. The things you mention are ancillary parts that go out on any modern car. I put my faith in on an engine I know, rather than one out of a salvage yard.

14+ engines whether from Q50 or newer 370z are preferred because of low miles generally and have a few redesigns like the headers and already updates gallery gaskets (hardware were the same so low oil pressure from the hardware backing out / loosening can still happen)

Awesome, didn’t really know but I will look into some 370z’s. With that are there any particular sites you guys use to get engines besides fb marketplace or eBay?

2014 q50 to 2011 g37 swap

i just installed a 3.7 from a 2014 q50 in my 2011 g37 and it IS an exact match except for the upper oxy sensor plug are both males but that's an easy modification ( all of the other wire harness plugs are exactly the same) and the headers are different but the g37 headers fit nicely so I just used them, the motor came with the trany but I chose to go with my existing trany (both bell housings have the same bolt pattern and starter mount configuration but they are obviously different so in trying to not throw my ECM PCM &TCM off i stuck with the OG G37 transmission
with all that being said when I went to start it everything lights up , everything inside works (windows, door locks, all the electronics work) and she turns over really well and consistent but it wont start and that's my question , does anyone have any good feedback on this? I am looking into replacing the ECM & PCM or at least downloading consult 3 plus for a few days and reprogramming but if anyone has an idea Id sooooo appreciate it .....this is the wife's car so I'm renting her a replacement but its starting to get heavy and she wants her car back lol

All grounds hooked up and not corroded?

Wiring all correct? When I did my swap, I actually mixed up the coil pack plugs for cylinder 3 and 5, then also mixed up the vvt solenoid plugs for bank 1 and bank 2.

Starter in good shape and voltage good?

wiring has always been a concern, their is so much going on with regards to wiring its almost overwhelming at times but aside from the upper oxy sensors both having male plugs everything matched and I'm 99% sure I have every plug in its correct spot( i checked them all at least 10 times) And it turns over just fine compression is good, she sounds good turning over( nice consistent sound) and all my grounds are clean and secure.
