Gas gauge doesn't work right and from time to time it will read right and then be stuck at 3/4 tank. I've done the new floater in the tank and the cluster gage reset and it all works fine. Some please help with this. I'm a single full-time dad with a 10yr old daughter and our car is our source of life.

 

I had the same problem this past Spring. It's a fairly common issue & the remedy ended up being an HVAC module behind the radio that needed to be replaced (see below). Verify that the part number matches your car. These can also be found used on eBay much cheaper but I wound up buying mine new from a local dealer.

Believe me I understand! It's definitely a job you can do yourself. In a nutshell, pop off the bezel around the radio/ remove it. Unplug the associated connectors & remove the bracket from the old module. Put in the new module & plug in all of the connectors back to their original position (there's a lot of them, I underestimated how many there would be). Also, moving the shifter to neutral greatly helps with clearance when trying to work. Best of luck to you & let us know how you make out!

 

I just Took it all apart and checked it out and got the proper matching part number. I also took apart the hvac module and saw no visible damage or burnt out circuitry. I will still get one from the junk yard and before I go I'll check the fuel pump thing with cleaning the terminals. I'll get to the bottom of this issue.

 

just did the fuel pump and fuel floater and checked and cleaned them and still no change. So it looks like I'll try the junk yard for the hvac module and see how it goes. Wish me luck it might take a few days to get back to this subject.

 

I just did the ac amplifier and it's the answer. You can find one in your local junk yard and look online for the list of cross references

This was a challenge for over a year with timing and weather and kids to get this job done. Now for those hard working dads and fellas. If you don't have the money or time to fix this. Just stick with using the tripometer and go 280 miles and fill up. This why you won't run out of gas until you can fix it. The part is expensive ut I found mine and other parts for 40 bucks today. Oh yeah you'll have to reset the air bag light too. It's easy. Just turn on the car without starting it and as soon as the light goes out before it blinks turn off the car amd repeat 3 to 5 times. Is there a way to tell whether it is the HVAC module or your fuel tank sender before repairing? In my situation I got he P0462 and the fuel guage stayed up at about 3/4 or a little less, and the DTE was about 300 miles, but when I put gas in I was able to get almost 15 gallons in. Thoughts on how to isolate which to address? TIA.

 

When I took out the fuel level sender on the driver's side I noticed it was a simple wiring and the contacts were clean. Gasoline is a good cleaner and after removing the fuel pump it was the same thing. My process came down to this. I changed out the fuel leve reader in the tank and no change so I put the old one back in and still the same, so it wasn't that. Then I did the fuel pump and there's a lot of fuel that comes out and it sprays so wear safety glasses and lots of paper towels. Then I saw the contacts were clean there too. Put it all back together and still no change. I went to the junkyard and found the ac amplifier on the first car and got it all in and it's reading right. Now for all I know it could be a matter of time this part can go too. I found infiniti made a new one and made a new part number. Tells me it must be this part. I'd try your local junk yard and it took me Less than 20 min to do. It's actually easy. Just make sure you put the shifter in drive with the car off and the e brake on and then turn the ignition off. The car will beep saying put it in park but this is a plus because as soon as you unplug the ac amplifier the noise stops and the cluster gage goes dark. This is another way to tell what the ac amplifier controls. If your g is I'm excellent condition and the fuel pump is working you can ride it out for a few to see if the fuel pump is the main problem because the fuel pump is the lesser of 2 evils. But for me I replaced the part and it's back where it should be. I will post if any changes and if so amy solutions. I love the challenge but what I love more is the cure and I'm the type that won't settle for less. Plus make sure you fix the water leaks at the firewalls from the sunroof drains. It's a **** show if you dont!

 

Get one from ebay or the scrap yard for cheaper.
