Gas Gauge

Has anyone else noticed that when you fill up your car the gas gauge reads above the "F" line on the gauge? Is this normal or is my car the exception?

Normal. Every car I have ever driven goes slightly above the F line when completely full and slightly below the E line when empty.

Interesting-my old BMW didn't do that-but then it actually had a peg at the top of the guage.

I heard of someone on this forum that had a problem that after he let his car sit for a month or so, after every full tank it doesn't go beyond the F line. I think thats a problem, but over its all good baby.

Perfectly normal. Gas gauge in my Jeep does the exact same thing when full. No worries.

FWIW, for 8 months out of the year, my gauge reads over the F after filling up. But, in the summer, in Phoenix, my gauge reads below the F after filling up. I assume it has something to do with the expansion of the fuel molecules in the Phoenix heat, especially with the new underground tanks being closer to the ground surface.

Last summer I wondered if my gauge or sending unit had gone bad. But, come October, everything was back to normal. Until a few weeks ago when the "summer problem" has reappeared.

That is weird. I live in Houston which is about as hot as AZ for about as long, and this has never happened to me.
