I needed to do some AC cleaning and needed to put in a new cabin filter. I used some BG Frigi Fresh without a filter and ran it to clean the system. I am going to follow up with some Klima Clean on the evaporator drain hose, but that aside, you can fit the Nissan Grape Seed Oil cabin filter on the G37. I do not have the technology package with the special air cleaning system. Part number: B7277-1CA1B is the Nissan Grape Seed Oil filter. I use this on my Q for some time and it is a great filter.
This filter has a strip of foam sealing on top to seal against the cabin filter housing. To install it, you just need to pinch the sides a bit to get it around the bracket on the left in front of the filter opening. Once inside it fits like a glove and simply button everything up and good to go. This filter does have a little bit less airflow then the more basic paper filters, but I would say it is a non issue, just something to keep in mind.
I had the aFe carbon filter (35-10005C) in the G before and it started to cause a mildew odor after 6 months. The basic Nissan paper ones: 27277-VX01A would last around or over a year for me.
On a side note, has anyone been able to successfully be able to run a cleaner through the AC drain line from underneath the car? I found one good video on it, but they don't really show the hole they exactly use. I think I will need to pull the carpet and do it from the inside and run an extension on the drain outside the vehicle to clean it.
I've used it on and off for years so I don't know why they advertise it only for the tech package. But like you said it does seem to restrict airflow a little more than other filters. I haven't noticed less dust in the car with it and it lets funky odors through like other premium filters so because of that, and the cost, I only get it when it's on sale. I use this
as it filters out the same stuff but it's half the price. I don't have allergies so I can't speak on that.
As for cleaning out the system, don't know about the line under the car but Scotty Kilmer has videos about using Lysol, or any disinfectant spray, to get rid of odors. I would use those little cans that "bomb" the interior but they only lasted for so long. I last did the Lysol cleaning over 2 years ago without the funky A/C odors returning. I just took out the cabin air filter and sprayed a whole can of disinfectant spray with the A/C on through the blower motor. Just air the car out for about 10-15 minutes with the fan on to get rid of the disinfectant smell. In the video he says to use half the can but I used the whole thing.
Yes I am not sure either, but it does fit and work. Thank you for the link.
For cleaning I linked the BG Frigi Fresh aerosol and it works good, though it is pretty expensive for such a small can. I had to apply it twice to the system to fully clean it. I just want to now clean the AC evaporator core, seems pulling the drain tube out of the grommet is the only practical way as apparently the way it is routed from the factory the hose gets a sharp bend in it, provided if you can even find it in the first place.

I bet the BG Frigi is just regular old disinfectant with a scent. You could just use the cheapest disinfectant spray you can find at Walmart. And I just change out my cabin filter every 6 months on Jan 1 and July 1 no matter the mileage. They are cheap so why not? And the restricted airflow causes extra noise since you have to turn up the fan speed sometimes to compensate for the lower airflow. That's probably why they say it's only for the Tech package. They don't want people without the Tech package using it then complaining about the lower airflow.
I've taken plenty of G37 systems apart and in all honesty cleaners just coat but dont truly clean. Charcoal and grapeseed filters are great but again dont clean which is the main issue.
My best recommendation for those interested in a better clean is to remove the blower motor which are just 3 simple 10mm screws. The whole blower comes out and gives you about a 10 in circumference hole to get plenty of brushes and rags to get it cleaned. By removing the blower and filter you'll have a lot more space to get in that difficult area. Depending on hand size and available tools you might be able to remove some leaves and dirt towards the evaporator/heater area.
Removing the center trim and AC vents can let you sneak a flexible rod and rags that you can coat in cleaner to clean the vents better.
This will be a step above than surface cleaners, Compressed air of blowing vacuum air will be your friend.
Another step, bit controversial is to pump as much drain cleaning fluid as possible into the drain hose and leave it for a few hours. This cleaner alone is not enough.
In the past I've pumped the drain full, let it sit and then pumped water back into the drain a few times so it can clean as much as possible.
Even with these steps you can only clean the evaporator possibly 15% in total.
Where you able to find the AC drain line underneath the car, or do you pull the hose from the interior carpet?
From the inside. I suspected that the one on the outside might not be a straight shot into the inside. I suspect the body joins both hoses together. These cleaners remedy that by providing a long tube for the cleaner to make sure it enters both.
