Weird groaning noise when I turn the steering wheel

I'm hoping this is something simple and I'm just an idiot. Suddenly, when I turn the wheel in either direction and put tension on the front, it makes a "groaning" sound. That's the best I can describe it as. Seems when I'm driving straight, I'm hearing a noise from the front that has a slight sound resembling what I'm trying to describe.

Any thoughts of where to start looking? I'm thinking power steering fluid?

Any leaks, low fluid? Maybe there's some air getting into the system? Have you tried replacing the fluid in the resevoir as its fairly simple to do with a $10 harbor frieght pump. I used Wolf's Head Dexron IV ATF last time I did mine.

Good thread here on the topic: https://www.myg37.com/forums/brakes-...g-whine-2.html

Not seeing any leaks. Fluid is near max. So you just pump out what's in the tank and then refill?
How do you get air out of the tank? I'll check that link. Thanks for replying.

It's getting worse so I'm wondering if it's the actual PS pump that's going South. I'll update and I really appreciate your replies.

Harbor Freight should be open on Labor Day? You may also be able to order a similar pump through Amazon prime? Autozone, Walmart, O’Reilly’s, etc should have Dexcom IV fluid.

Banking on all of that. Hoping to get everything local because I don't like the increasing sound and it's seeming to get a little worse. I'm taking turns much lighter now. Praying this fixes it. Will keep you informed.

Loosen the ps cap. Jack the front of the car up so both front wheels are off the ground and turn lock to lock 20 times with the ignition on but without the engine running.

You can even use a turkey baster type thing with a small diameter. I used one of those to do change a bottles worth of fluid in my car.

That sounds simple enough. I wasn't able to get to Harbor Freight due to other things today. I'll try this and see if I can just get the air out and go from there. Still want to put new fluid in it. Planning on an entire maintenance this month. Plugs, coils, all fluids. Thanks.

Going to drain it, refill with new fluid, jack up the car and turn the wheel to lock 20 times each and I guess report back. Otherwise, I'm guessing it's the PS pump itself. Going to
check videos to see how easy that is and if I can handle it.

Appreciate your reply.
