Infiniti vs Nissan parts and dealers (working on cars)

Had to stop at my local Nissan dealer to pickup some valve cover gaskets etc. (Infiniti dealer is an extra 10 miles away)

While there I asked them if they would be willing to work on a G37 if I needed to have my gallery gaskets replaced.

They told me they could work on the car, but may not be able to get the right parts (gasket, etc) because last year Nissan somewhat split from Infiniti and the no longer can cross reference parts numbers.

I said well, the 370Z has the same engine and the same gallery gasket, you could look that up and use that. They said they couldn't, they still would need to call Infiniti to make sure that the part number from a 370Z would work on the G37.

anyone know more about this? Like Nissan saying they can't cross reference parts.

I don't know about the split, but the part number thing seems to be correct. I had that issue somewhat recently when ordering parts to do my valve cover gaskets. When I told the guy, I need covers for a Infiniti he said oh... we can't do that. So I had to google for the Nissan part number myself and give it to him

I've gotten that from some dealers but not all.

Only folks that actually know the vehicles and engines could give you a straight answer so dont expect any dealer employee who actually deals with customers to even come close to knowing this information. That's Nissan's way of telling the customer to go kick rocks.

In one way if they damage any exterior part belonging to the Infiniti they might not be able to easily replace the part.

Infiniti is dying. The Q60 is already dead. If the brand continues to lose money, it will die. Nissan is already broke and not turning any profits. At some point you have to stop fertilizing a dying tree.

re: engine parts. IF the parts are for the VQ37VHR it will fit the VQ37VHR. The engine does not know if it is in a Z or G. The only red flags I could potentially visualize, aside from damage that BULL alluded to, would be warranty on repairs. Even then, there are always other avenues for parts (Japan) and repair facilities.

All things come to a end...

I would skip buying from your local dealer unless you really need it that day. The parts department is very expensive and unless you have an account with them to bring it back down to orbit you will get hosed.

For example, I have a Nissan dealer almost walking distance from me and it was significantly cheaper to purchase a Thermostat from Z1 and pay shipping.

I've been blessed that some of my old co-workers still work at the dealer, in my experience I saved $200 by going the dealer route for the Sports Bumper.

Z1 wanted around $550-$600 vs Dealer $360 locally picked up.

I suspect that faster selling items keep their mark up in the dealer since they will get an owner as part as a "cooling system service etc" VS a body part of a specific trim that not many own + employee discount

Sucks that I would not trust any other T-stat on a VQ other than OEM.

The local Nissan dealer's prices are about the same as online. Very little difference.

That's sad to hear. I hope they can restructure and come back. I did enjoy my g37. Since the Q40/50/xx came out, the car did nothing for me. They made it too artificial.

Maybe they will die a slow death and not come back. Someone else will take their place. I guess we can say from ~70's through ~2015 or so was the automobile golden era.
