Hey everyone. I've been reading along for nearly a year but this is my first post.
I've got two persistent issues with my 6MT Sedan that I haven't been able to find solutions for yet.
The Key Light on my dash is the first thing I see every time I open my door, whether the car is on or not. The light came on about a month after I got the car & it's been on ever since. It remains on the entire time I'm driving. I've replaced the batteries in both of my keys a handful of times, makes no difference. The car will fail to recognize the key(s) at all about once a week which forces me to put my key in the slot to start the car. I've done an ECU relearn, no results. I took my car to the nearest Nissan dealership out of frustration last week & they were no help. Needless to say I wasn't surprised. I feel like I'm driving on borrowed time until my car flatout refuses to start one day.
Regarding my cruise control, it hasn't worked properly since I got the car last May. The On/Off button works just fine but Cruise Control won't Set no matter how fast or slow I'm going. I thought the brake switch was the problem but it still doesn't work even after replacing that.
Would replacing the Body Control Module fix either of my problems? If so, what's the best way to get a replacement BCM? I've also read that the Intelligent Power Distribution Module could be the problem, but I'm not so sure about that.
Try adjusting or checking your clutch safety switch being that this one affects the cruise.
This could affect the Key Light and security as well. Does your steering wheel lock?
A faulty steering lock will trigger this light as well but many times it just wont let you go anywhere which is direct answer to a steering lock failure.
Start with the clutch switch first to see if your CC starts operating and then the light, treat both problems as a separate one for now.
re: key icon, what year is your car. This can be very important.
As BULL mentioned, treat both issues separately.
For the cruise control: there are three (3) switches on your pedals: Clutch, Brake, and ASCD (Cruise Control). I would check all three to make sure they are good and also that they did not get knocked out of adjustment/ alignment. Also, there are two (2) rubber stoppers that push against the brake and ASCD switches
These are notorious for popping off as the adhesive ages leaving a gap. This gap can prevent the switches from fully working.
