I joined 10th Anniversary club few years ago. This year will be 13th year at 125k miles. I don't know how much longer, I will be owning this car. I am trying but things starting to break.. What I decided was that I am not gonna be driving like what it was new. If there are few service lights on the dashboard and nothing serious, I will just have to live with it. That's how it's gonna be. At some point, I am gonna have to pour money into it event after normal maintenance. Every time I pour in $$, i wonder what's next...
Only issue to speak of is noisy power steering pump (works fine, just sounds pretty awful when come close to locking the wheel in either direction…something I do often to parallel park in tight spots). I need to replace my brakes (pads and discs) soon, still on originals. Also might use that as an opportunity to replace a bunch of fluids.
My son's 2007 G35S(130K miles) recently began to have some issues...
1.Bad thermostat
2. Wet floor after heavy rain
3. Bose amp work intermittently
It's almost 17 year old. Every car will die one day!!!
I would also like to share my little story with this G35S...
In 2011, I bought this 2007 G35S and my friend bought a 2010 328i. Guess what... 3 years later, the transmission of my friend's BMW was broken and changed to a brand new Camry and I kept driving this premium Nissan until my son took over it in 2017. Now, my son still drives it daily...

In 2013, my cousin, a 50 something old office lady bought a brand new 320i. In 2014 we got together and she kept saying her new BMW was fast and much faster than her previous old car, 2006 IS250. Guess what... In 2017, we got together again. The situation became very different. She kept complaining her new BMW was slow and asked me why???
Then, I asked her one question... "Now, which car is faster???" Guess what...(You won't believe it!!!) She said "LEXUS!!!"
2012 Sedan, original owner, garaged, 108500, no mods., just maintenance items, tires, batteries, brakes, a little seepage at rack and pinion seal, and rear differential, which I am watching. Have used a stop leak on both and it seems to be working. Recently, lower radiator hose leaking at connection, Just simply moved spring clamp forward and used a standard hose clamp in it’s place. Stopped the leak. I like this car. Still a Solid ride. Reliable. I would like to put another 100K on her.
Traded in my 2004.5 G35S Sedan of 9 years (89,000 miles) for a new Platinum Silver G37S Sedan in 2013. Back then both g35driver and myG37 forums were thriving and the brand still had some legs under it. Regardless the state of both today, the cars themselves were/are literally flawless and an absolute joy to drive, maintain and modify. Hell, on my 2013 with 67k miles I still haven’t blown my rear diff bushing or experienced the dreaded clogged sun roof drain (knock on wood). Despite the unicorn nature of my 2013 and it essentially looking and driving better than it did new - I know at some point soon I will need to move on. I love the looks of the Q50, but the VR30 based platform seems to have lost some of the grit, raw performance and reliability that had become a hallmark for the VQ35/37.

Road trip to Los Angeles today. ~160 miles on the tank at this point, lots of cruise control at 70+ mph, some traffic. Is anyone getting closer to 30mpg? I’m guessing I could get there with a longer trip and an average speed in the high 50s vs mid 60s. Not too bad for a car that hit its 10 year anniversary this month.
I haven't used the pen and paper method for a while since I rarely allow the car to go below a 1/4 tank. Today I made it close to a 1/2 tank before refilling and I was proud of myself (I also never allow my phone to go below a 50% charge, OCD thing).
Mileage discussion seems relevant to 10 year old cars? The NA/large displacement VQ seems to get better with age, which is now rare in an age of TT small displacement motors. Wonder if there is a 10 year and counting thread on Bimmerfest?
I'm finally saying goodbye to the G. I haven't had her 10 years as I'm the second owner, but it was getting close. She is still such a strong car at 205k and almost 17 years. I have purchased a new-to-me car but drive her periodically to ease the transition while I passively post her up for sale. I am so impressed with this car. It was ahead of its time with the technology package and has provided such a great, interactive ownership experience for me. I'll definitely miss her when she's officially gone.
