Painting Stock Grille

My body shop said they most likely wouldn't paint my stock grille due to adhesion issues. Then I hear others having it painted no problem. I want to body match the outer part of the grille. To those that have had this done, how is it help up? Did you pay a shop to do it, or did you DIY it? Yes I've searched around.... just seeing if there's any new answers. Thanks

I had mine custom painted in June 2013, exactly 8 years ago now. Took it to a paint shop, paid $275. The perimeter was painted Moonlight White, while the slats and Fuji sides were painted metallic gloss black... a GM color, I think. But black is black. There have been a couple of chips over the years, poorly dabbed by me, but overall it's held up really well. Looks positively OEM. My only real complaint is that Moonlight White is a 3-stage paint that ages over time, and it's damn near impossible to match. But I knew that going into it.

The shop didn't blink once at the project, and simply scuffed the surfaces and prepped with appropriate primer before painting. Dropped off the grille, and picked it back up 3 or 4 days later. Very simple mod that's so-o-o much better than the chrome look.

As Rochester noted above, painting the outside edges gives such an OEM+ look to the Sedan. I think a local shop charged me ~$100 for it, and didn't question the project at all. I've had this grill for 2.5 years now and it still looks great.

It looks like you have Lakeshore slate. Too bad, I'm actually going to be selling this grille soon as my new 6MTG is black and I will be getting a "midnight" grille for it.

I think the OP is Blue Slate, not Lakeshore Slate. 2010 was the last year for LS... such a nice color, too.

Deep, your front end is gorgeous. Very well done... OEM front chin, OEM (ridiculously expensive) running light LED's, painted headlight housings with halos, and custom grille in the theme of this thread. No front plate, too, lucky guy.

Great photo, beautiful treatment.
