Hey guys. 2010 g37x sedan. 80k kms. Just got my windshield replaced about 2 months ago.
It finally rained and i noticed my auto wipers arent working like they used to. Basically, you can pull the stalk down one click to "auto" mode and the wipers will cycle once and never move again. Before they used to adjust frequency themselves.
They work fine on 'low' and "high" setting. If i adjust the sensitive by turning the dial all the way to max, they cycle once and dont cycle again.
Is there a recalibration or diag steps to check whats going on?
Its annoying to either have them off, or on all the time. Id rather have the delay but it isnt working.
I only realized this problem now since its the first time its rained this year.
Short answer: there is no system reset or initialization for the rain sensor.
It is possible that the technician who replaced your windshield may have forgotten to reconnect the rain sensor. Or, they may have reused the gel pad/adhesive instead of replacing with a new one. Technically, rain sensors are to be replaced, not reused.
Unfortunately, the FSM is very limited on the rain sensing wiper system. You can get a copy of the FSM from here and read up on what to check. Section WW (Windshield Wiper) will have the rain sensing system.
I would take it back to the repair shop and have them look into the issue. If it was working properly before they replaced the glass, the onus is on them to make it right.
Just FYI, new rain sensors are roughly $350 new from the dealership.

did you get a factory oem glass? the rain sensor eyelets are usually built into the glass and aftermarket windshields do not come with them. I have seen this many of times at the benz dealer where i worked as customer complain about the same issue. we just inspect the glass and laugh then call the advisor to let them know the customer was a cheap bas tard with a non oem glass. an aftermarket front windshield for a benz can run under 500 where as a superior factory oem windshield made in the fatherland can run over 1000 and thats not including labor. if you got a factory oem glass there is a possibility that the sensor connector was not connected or perhaps damaged during glass replacement.
Ive just been busy with work so havent had the time to go yet. I went over a big bump and my wipers turned on (i had them on auto). lol. I figure its something not overly serious.
Your wiper stock will have the "auto adj" on it and you'll have a rain sensor on your windshield. I believe these are the indicators that you have it, but someone can correct me if im wrong
The only sure fire way to know if your car has the Rain Sensing Wiper system is to look for the rain sensor itself. This is what the rain sensor looks like:
Look above/behind your rear view mirror. The sensor is mounted on the glass with a adhesive gel pad. Hard to see in this picture but you'll get the idea:
