Hey guys, I noticed something was scraping under my car so I looked underneath and saw there was a missing cover of some sort. Is there an exploded view of the undercarriage I can look at to see what is missing? Do I need to buy the entire assembly or can I just buy that small cover? It looks like the plastic is bent so maybe I need the whole thing.
It looks like the oil flapper door. Since your sways are not covered thats my only thought as the door covers your front swaybar. My guess is someone forgot to tighten the screws when you had your last oil change(assuming you went somewhere to have them change the oil) Or you hit something from the bottom making the door sheer off.
Its not an expensive fix. Just buy a new plastic protector. It is an entire assembly and I think I paid something like 150 new in the box or so for mine off Ebay from an Infiniti Dealer in Maryland. You can always get a used one as well for about half that. Just be sure to get the one with the door as some of the early model Gs did not have the door cutout. However You dont really need to replace anything honestly if you dont want to. Just get rid of that hanging down piece which is the rest of your door I am assuming and drive on. Or you could just remove the protector all together(Would not reccommend if you like somewhere it snows etc)

Ah, thanks, that's not too bad. For now I will remove that hanging part and see if I can find a cover later on.
Looks like the hanging piece is what's left of the access panel to your oil filter and drain plug. Pretty sure you can't buy that by itself, in that it's part of the entire undertray. But maybe... it's worth the ask of your local Infiniti parts department.

If it were me I would just fabricate my own plastic flap.
Just find a piece of plastic and and poke some holes in it then zap strap it up!
Done for practically free and only takes probably 10 minutes.
Just yesterday I replaced my undertray with a TBW aluminum...I have the OEM one and can pull off the trap door and send it to you. The undertray is just waiting for trash pickup so it's no big deal...O

Why would that cause electrical issues? What's in that general facinity that would be effected by that?
There are all kinds of things that the cover projects. Sensors, parts, etc. If water gets whipped up into the belts...it gets churned up and sprays all over everything - the alternator, all the sensors on top, the coils, plugs...all that gets a nice bath.
Like...same reason as you wouldn't drive around without an engine hood. That cover is no different than that, in function...except it covers the under side.
I haven't had an oil filter cover on my undershield for years and I can't say I've had any electrical issues. Canadian winters are hard on under shields and much of it is held up by zip ties at this point as the scraping on snow and ice has ripped most of the mounts out. Undershields are mainly for airflow reasons, no?

They're there for several reasons. Slightly lowering the air pressure under the car is just one of them. They're also called "splash shields", which is self explanatory, but not splashing has secondary benefits also. Corrosion protection, etc. They also protect from debris.
The tooling to make it probably cost Nissan $500K or more. So....likely a lot of reasoning behind it.
Just Google the undertray for G37 and you will find a lot plastic ones like the OEM for about $60. I had mine replaced because it was getting old. Again in case you do not want to spend a lot of money.
