Help with undertray

I was driving home last night when I rammed a chunk of asphalt in thew middle of the road. Took it to the shop today and saw that 3 bolt holes where the undertray bolts up to the bumper were completely ripped out. Ive talked to the city and they're gonna give me $200 for a new tray. But is there anyway I can fix those ripped bolt holes on the bottom of the bumper? or will I have to buy a whole new sport bumper?

Sucks that this happened, however... could have been much worse. And the city is giving you $200? That's amazing. I would have bet $200 that it was a foolish ask, to expect compensation from the highway department. Wow. Good for you for the asking.

Perhaps your best move is to drill new holes, an inch or two to the left or right, and call it a day. Getting a whole new bumper seems overkill.

You could always just drill big holes like Rochester said. As long as you don't have to use a 10 foot bolt you should be okay lol.

My undertray is pretty bad, no accident needed. Before my next oil change I'm going to buy an Aluminum undertray and redrill a few of the holes that have ripped over time. The undertrays are less than $200, so your highway department $ will more than cover it. I'd suggest you look into doing the same. The aluminum undertrays are going to hold up much better than the plastics, make oil changes easier, and provide less flex in your front bumper. It's a win all around (unless you're comparing price, but still a cheap and useful upgrade).

I concur with Freighttrain, the undertray is needed and it also needs to survive, something the plastic one wont do.

Side note: if you do end up getting the aluminum one beware as it will not be as forgiving as your plastic one if it gets caught on something.

You mean the plastic tabs that hold the metal threaded things got completely ripped out?
On my old bumper, to fix this exact thing, I took some aluminium sheet, cut strips about an inch wide and 3 inches long. Folded them in half and riveted them over the ripped out holes. Then I drilled through the aluminium and added some rivnuts. Undertray then just bolted up like OEM.

I'm buying the TBW undertray next month, and I know for a fact that I have two clip holes that are destroyed on the front passenger side. Thanks for the inspiration, hexotic.

Haha, nice. One thing I'll say having the TBW myself is the z1 tray may be better designed. I love the TBW, but the door for oil draining is not perfectly positioned and oil hits the tray still. The z1 tray seems to just have a large removable panel. Both fantastic products, just my 2 cents.
