MotorvateDIY Latest Episode, #35 Drag Racing the Sedan

We needed to do some data recording with maximum engine load in the first 4 gears to see the air fuel ratio, diff oil temp, engine oil temp increase, crank case pressure and about 35 other items. So we grabbed the GoPro and headed to the local drag strip, in wonderful Cayuga, Ontario.

This was not a planned episode, but after looking at the video clips I saw a story and here it is:

I know you're data logging, but still... 13.6 must have felt pretty good.

Great video, Frank.

Thanks Rochester!... My best time was a 14.09, but since you are the Mod, I will have to agree with you

Doh! You were on the right side in that run. My bad.

Describe your mods, please. Off the top of my head, I recall you have a Stillen catback, but IDK what else is going on except for being a meticulously maintained car.

"meticulously maintained car" I guess it is... but It has to be... I am like the mad researcher doing questionable medical experiments on it. Sometimes I even say "sorry" to it

My mods are a short list:
• K&N Panel air filters in stock air box. (installed in July 2016 and they haven't been cleaned since... all for a future episode!)
• Stillen Catback exhaust
• Tires: Bridgestone Potenza RE980 AS (500 tread ware all season tires - not really a mod, but useful to know for drag racing)

I see you are going in the depth on the car and how it behaved but I don't see anything about how you launched the car etc.

Judging from the 60ft, if you could get it down to a 1.9 on street tires you would be easily into the 13s. Rule of thumb for every 0.1 off of the 60ft you gain 0.2 ET.

Thanks for the input.
I do have the data on engine RPM, throttle position, accelerator pedal position, vehicle speed and acceleration force, but I didn't add it.
After the next few episodes are released, I may update the video and overlay some gauges on the screen from the data collected.

My main reason for going drag racing was to record crankcase pressure with and with out a PCV system at wide open throttle in the first 4 gears.
My mind was more on ensuring the data recorder is running and checking battery levels. I wasn't being too serious about drag racing - I didn't air down the rear tires or do anything that you would normally do.

If I do go back, I will bring more cameras. One on the front window, one on the side window and maybe one in the foot well to capture clutch/accelerator pedal actions.

Well... To be honest, I have ZERO desire for all the head aches that come with an aftermarket supercharger.
I like things that work and for me, the VHR as it is works very well
